What I do

As a Business Consultant on a business process re-engineering project, my goal is to adapt our client's business processes into a customized new system. My current job is to serve as a kind of bridge between the client and our development vendor, located in India, occasionally involving Accenture India team members as well.

As the project is using Agile methodologies to develop the new system, I am in charge of requirement definition and high-level design based on sprint development cycles. As the client is also a global company, I feel fortunate to be working in an environment with a deep commitment to cross-cultural understanding, not only within Accenture, but also when it comes to our clients. Even though our team members come from many different countries and backgrounds, the atmosphere of tolerance and understanding ensures that everyone can perform to the maximum of their potential.

A day in my life

Since most Accenture members are currently working from home, most of our meetings take place online. On my current project, we hold daily internal meetings in the morning, and also around this time I usually list my tasks and share them with my supervisor. Sharing tasks and progress regularly helps avoid missing todos, and allows my supervisor to have oversight on my daily work.

After that, I check emails and our Indian team members' responses to queries, and get back to other team members. We communicate with our clients and development team members very frequently, making it easy to make timely adjustments.

In the afternoon, we sometimes have external meetings with clients or the development team. If not, I will use my time creating documents for requirement definition, high-level designs or other necessary materials based on the development cycles.

My advice

Before graduating from my Japanese university, I had already heard that Accenture was a diverse and inclusive environment, based on word of mouth from my seniors. The recruitment process itself was smooth and exciting, with interesting case studies and impressive interviewers who helped me feel at ease.

Since starting my career in Accenture, my impression of Accenture as a diverse, inclusive and flexible workplace has only deepened. It sometimes seems to me that there are as many different career paths in Accenture as there are people, and all of them are equally valued. Every project is staffed with members from a multitude of international backgrounds, and there are many opportunities to pursue work abroad, starting as soon as during one's first assignment. All of this makes for a lively and varied work environment.
