Fjord Trends 2018: Tension as Opportunity

9:30AM - 10:30AM

Digital vs. physical, human vs. machine, speed vs. craft, traceability vs. anonymity. Across society and technology, we're encountering polarizing opinions, ideas, and ways of doing things. How can we navigate these tensions and design for positive, long-lasting change? Join us for a discussion on seven trends we think will impact business, technology, and design in 2018 and beyond.
Presented by Tanarra Schneider.

Physical Fights Back

11:00AM - 12:00PM

Screen fatigue has set in, and our engagement with tech is moving to the IRL, 3D world. Physical spaces and products are now smart and helpful. (Hi Alexa!) Blurring into the background, they enable more natural, human interactions with digital-physical experiences. But creating this requires new "blended design" expertise that merges digital and physical product design. We'll explore how brands can use a new design rubric to create experiences that foster deeper customer relationships.
Presented by Max Burton.

Tech & Humanity: Embedding Empathy in Experience

12:30PM - 1:30PM

As technology advances, is there a danger we're forgetting the most important thing of all—the individual? Empathy is now more important than ever as AI and voice UI experiences become common. We'll reveal new insights from our Human Experiences research, and explore how brands can inject empathy into experiences in order to play a more meaningful role in people's lives.
Presented by Jon Wilkins.

Putting People at the Center of Change

2:00PM - 3:00PM

Digital disruption" is doing just that—disrupting entire industries and creating new standards for brand experience. While minding the bottom line and keeping up with emerging tech, companies shouldn't forget their most important asset: their people! Hear how companies can rewire their organizations to create stand-out employee experiences, a customer-centric vision, and stronger collaboration across the unique disciplines and cultures they need to deliver for digital.
Presented by Jackie Jones and Martha Cotton.

Brands, Bring Back the Expertise!

3:30PM - 4:30PM

Making something easier to buy doesn't make it easier to shop. The relentless focus on digital commerce has made it hard for customers to find the things they actually want—but even harder for brands to differentiate themselves. As customers flock to blogs and influencers for guidance or advice, brands must now reassert themselves digitally as trusted experts and offer personalized services that puts fun back into the experience.
Presented by Jeriad Zoghby.

Extended Realities: The End of Distance

5:00PM – 6:00PM

Even in today's hyper-connected world, brands are faced with the challenge of distance: distance to people, distance to info, distance to experiences. How do they solve for "needed here, but exists there"? Extended Reality (XR)—AR, VR, MR—can bridge the gap through relevant, immersive experiences—and when combined with AI, the opportunity is endless. We'll explore how intelligent XR experiences will fundamentally change how brands connect with people.
Presented by Rori Duboff.

Blockchain’s Promise: Hit or Hype?

Blockchain is making headlines as “the next big thing.” It has shown great promise across a wide range of processes and industries to improve the way we live and work—but is it just hype? Why is this tech capturing the imaginations of global business leaders? Join us as we explore why, and how, blockchain’s unique attributes could apply to a variety of business issues. How can brands begin to think about blockchain, and what characteristics make a good use case?
Presented by David Treat.

Blockchain for Social Good – and Business Benefit

Blockchain has been called an equalizer. It has the potential to add transparency and trust to many opaque processes, from tracking diamonds to pharmaceuticals. It also has the potential to help more individuals participate in the global economy through greater financial inclusion, direct-paid aid distribution, and verified digital identities. Join us as we discuss how some of the world’s most pressing socio-economic problems can be solved using blockchain—which in turn can also help businesses perform better.
Presented by David Treat and Simon Whitehouse.

Best Bot Wins!

Chatbots are transforming the way major brands engage and interact with customers. But when it comes to anticipating needs and adapting to customer challenges, not just any bot will do! Join this session to explore the connection between humans, automation and machine learning. And get hands-on by designing your own conversational chatbot solutions - we’ll end the workshop with a bot-off! No technical skills needed—just wear your creative thinking cap.
Presented by Kris Bober.

Great Expectations: The New Adaptive Commerce Experience

Imagine you’re vacationing at a ski resort. When you arrive, you skip check-in because the resort already knows you’re there. Your phone becomes your room key. Your smart TV alerts you to snow conditions, and recommends gear you might need—that’s in-stock at the ski shop and can be instantly purchased and delivered. Welcome to the world of Adaptive Commerce Experiences. We expect tech to anticipate our needs (sometimes before we do!) and deliver convenience through intuitive, deeply personalized experiences. Come see firsthand through an interactive journey how adaptive brand experiences can delight and win over customers—whenever, wherever.
Presented by Will Brown, Julian Lambert and Victoria Wind.

Journey to XR: The Role of The Digital Twin

What is a digital twin? It’s an identical, virtual copy of a product, part or machine that can power a limitlesss range of dynamic customer experiences from augmented, mixed and virtual reality to digital kiosks to print, tv, web, and mobile media. This is innovation that can be applied to any business, in any industry. Join us as we discuss the creation and significance of a digital twin as brands move from 2D to 3D content, along with strategic use cases and extended reality (XR) applications for industries including automotive, retail and beyond.
Presented by Rori Duboff and Stephan Baier.

Mad for MAAX! A New XR Collaboration Platform

VR and AR are excellent tools when it comes to experiencing, and training for, scenarios that are too expensive, dangerous or impossible in real life. But they can be pretty solitary experiences too. You wear the headset and enter your own world. So how do we make the experience more collaborative? Meet MAAX—Multi-user, Agnostic, Asymmetric, XR (extended reality). MAAX allows multiple users to interact real-time—anywhere, on any device and platform. Join us to explore this technology, and learn how it can be applied to business challenges across industries.
Presented by Hunter Woodlee.
