RESEARCH REPORT

Accelerating reinvention to support growth with AI-powered operations

Reinvention-ready organizations that have developed Intelligent Operations are 3.3x more likely to have successfully scaled high-value gen AI use cases and report 2.5x higher revenue growth.

10-MINUTE READ

September 17, 2024

In brief

  • Organizations who are reinvention-ready were 3.3x more likely to succeed at scaling high-value gen AI use cases.
  • They reported 2.5x higher revenue growth from 2019-2023 than peers with the lowest operations readiness.
  • Only 16% of organizations have the highest level of operations readiness.
  • Intelligent Operations are enabled by talent, assets & platforms, and methods & processes.

To  thrive, organizations need to reinvent themselves, and our research shows that 92% of C-suite leaders see generative AI is key to reinventing at scale and at speed.1 Eighty-one percent of executives believe that rapid experimentation is key to scaling gen AI across their enterprises over the next six to 12 months. And 71% say they need to be less risk-averse when it comes to scaling gen AI use cases.2

Operations' readiness helps companies accelerate gen AI adoption, which improves operational efficiency that in turn extends the use of gen AI. It is a virtuous and co-dependent cycle. Each one needs the other to reach its potential and create an enterprise that is reinvention ready.

Business impact of reinvention-ready operations

16%

Of organizations have the most mature operations.

3.3x

More likely to succeed at scaling high-value gen AI use cases (organizations with the most mature operations vs. those with the lowest maturity).

2.5x

Higher average revenue growth between 2019 and 2023 (organizations with the most mature operations vs. those with lowest maturity).

2.4x

Greater improvements in productivity (organizations with the most mature operations vs. those with lowest maturity).

Criteria for reinvention-ready operations

Gen AI Implementation

Gen AI proofs of concept in production across multiple functions and business units. Gen AI-focused technology infrastructure investments.

Traditional AI Embedded

AI is deployed in most processes. An AI roadmap is well-defined and often reassessed. AI-led scenario planning for continuous reinvention.

Widespread Automation

Low-code and no-code automation embedded across the enterprise. End-to-end processes transformed with platform integration and hyper-automation.

Data & Analytics

Mature data products are hosted on a self-service data “marketplace” with real-time analytics and data science tools. Governance is federated.

Organizations that have invested in operations readiness exceed their peers in scaling gen AI and achieving higher revenue growth.

How to develop reinvention-ready operations

Modernize data foundation

Move to centralized data governance and a domain-centric view of data modernization.

Embrace a talent-first reinvention strategy

Reshape the workforce so new roles align. Design a talent pipeline around gen AI skills.  Provide comprehensive training for talent.

Ensure business and IT co-own

Led by the CEO, tech and business teams should together create the gen AI roadmap, define goals and outcomes and make joint decisions.

Adopt leading processes

Apply leading cloud-based practices to business processes and process mining, and enable internal and external benchmarking to drive performance.
