Our Planning Engineer plays a key role in developing, managing, and maintaining project schedules and controls across the full project lifecycle. The role holder is responsible for producing reliable schedules, supporting reporting processes, and ensuring robust planning standards are maintained in line with both Soben and client requirements.
The role holder will collaborate closely with project teams, clients, and contractors to ensure accurate tracking of progress, forecasting, and performance across projects within the Norwegian market.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain baseline and ongoing project schedules aligned with project scope and delivery strategy.
- Produce weekly and monthly reports in line with project reporting cycles, including progress updates, actuals, forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Support the planning and delivery of projects across office and site environments, contributing to a high-performing regional planning function.
- Utilise planning systems and tools to provide accurate, consistent reporting and analysis aligned with project and business requirements.
- Collaborate with project execution and commercial teams to develop competitive and achievable project programmes from bid stage through to delivery.
- Develop and maintain earned value management (EVM) systems to accurately measure project performance across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Monitor project progress and performance, identifying risks, delays, and opportunities, and supporting mitigation strategies.
- Support continuous improvement of planning processes and team capability across regional and global project portfolios.
- Work collaboratively with wider teams to share best practices, lessons learned, and improve consistency of delivery across projects.
- Lead or support project controls teams on large or complex projects where required.
- Ensure adherence to client processes, reporting standards, and governance requirements.
- Support change management processes, ensuring programme updates and impacts are accurately captured and communicated.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as required within the role.
About You
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in project planning within construction, infrastructure, or energy sectors.
- Experience working on projects in Norway or the Nordic region is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of project planning principles, methodologies, and scheduling tools.
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, including resource planning and cost tracking.
- Understanding of earned value management principles and project controls practices.
- Experience supporting projects within EPC or client-side environments.
- Ability to produce accurate schedules, reporting, and insights for senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working within matrix project teams and engaging with multiple stakeholders.
- Confident in challenging project data and driving accountability through progress reviews.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and effectively.
- Fluency in English; Norwegian language skills are advantageous.
