SUMMARY:
The Lead Software Engineer (LSE) will serve as a senior technical leader with deep expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. This role partners with business stakeholders to translate finance and operations needs into scalable ERP solutions using Business Central configuration, extensions (AL), integrations, and modern engineering practices. The LSE will drive technical direction, mentor engineering teams, and own solution architecture, delivery quality, and enterprise-scale modernization initiatives.
Roles & Responsibilities:
1. Lead solution discovery, feature design, and demonstrations for engineering teams and business stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment with Business Central functional requirements.
2. Translate business processes into functional and technical specifications, guiding implementation approach and providing constructive feedback during design and code reviews.
3. Architect and deliver scalable Business Central solutions leveraging configuration, permission sets, and AL-based extensions, including upgrade-safe patterns and AppSource-ready practices where applicable.
4. Design and implement integrations using Business Central APIs (REST), web services (OData/SOAP as needed), and event-driven patterns with Azure services (Service Bus, Functions, Logic Apps) and Power Platform.
5. Own extension lifecycle management across Business Central SaaS environments (Sandbox/Production), including versioning, dependency management, release planning, and safe deployment/rollback strategies.
6. Lead incident management and on-call procedures, ensuring timely diagnosis and resolution of Business Central and integration issues with clear stakeholder communication.
7. Establish and enforce engineering standards for AL development (code organization, testing, performance, security), and coach teams on extension best practices.
8. Partner with PM/TPM/EM to drive program-level prioritization across releases, ensuring measurable business value and predictable delivery.
9. Facilitate PI planning, backlog refinement, and execution tracking, maintaining alignment with enterprise objectives and compliance needs.
10. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Business Central extensions using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions (build, test, signing, artifact management, deployment automation).
11. Drive data migration and data quality initiatives using Business Central migration tooling, configuration packages, and controlled cutover planning collaborate on ETL pipelines and master-data governance where needed.
12. Mentor senior engineers and ERP consultants in Business Central, integrations, and cloud operations, helping grow technical depth and delivery maturity.
