Role Summary:
The Windows Application Packaging SME is responsible for end-to-end application packaging, testing, and deployment for Windows environments. This role acts as a technical authority for application packaging standards, troubleshooting complex issues, and supporting large-scale enterprise deployments using modern endpoint management tools.
Key Responsibilities:
Application Packaging & Deployment
Design, create, and maintain application packages using MSI, MSIX, App-V, and EXE repackaging techniques.
Perform application repackaging using tools such as AdminStudio, Advanced Installer, InstallShield, Wise Package Studio, or equivalent.
Convert legacy installers to MSI/MSIX following enterprise standards.
Package applications for SCCM/MECM, Intune, and VDI environments.
Handle application upgrades, supersedence, detection methods, and uninstall logic.
Testing & Validation
Conduct functional, regression, and UAT testing of packaged applications.
Validate packages across multiple Windows versions (Windows 10 / Windows 11) and architectures (x64).
Troubleshoot installation, upgrade, and removal issues using logs (MSI logs, ProcMon, Event Viewer).
Enterprise Endpoint Management
Support deployments via Microsoft SCCM/MECM, Microsoft Intune, and Group Policy.
Create and manage detection rules, requirements, dependencies, and deployment collections.
Work closely with endpoint and EUC teams to ensure seamless rollouts.
SME & Governance
Define and enforce application packaging standards, best practices, and naming conventions.
Review and approve packages created by junior packagers.
Act as an escalation point for complex packaging and deployment issues.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members.
Automation & Scripting
Develop and maintain scripts using PowerShell, VBScript, or batch scripting to automate packaging and deployment tasks.
Create custom install/uninstall scripts and wrapper logic.
Documentation & Compliance
Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and packaging runbooks.
Ensure packages comply with security, licensing, and compliance requirements.
Work with security teams to remediate vulnerabilities in packaged applications.
Required Skills & Experience:
Technical Skills
Strong expertise in Windows Application Packaging (MSI, MSIX, App-V, EXE).
Hands-on experience with SCCM/MECM and Microsoft Intune.
Advanced troubleshooting skills for Windows installer technologies.
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting.
Experience with application lifecycle management in enterprise environments.
Understanding of Windows OS internals, registry, services, file system, and user context.

SCCM (Applications, Task Sequences, Collections)
Intune (Win32 apps, detection rules)
ProcMon, Orca, InstEd, Dependency Walker
VDI platforms (Citrix / VMware Horizon – desirable)
Preferred Experience with MSIX App Attach
Knowledge of Windows Autopilot
Exposure to DevOps or CI/CD for application packaging
ITIL certification
Microsoft certifications (MD-102, MS-102, or equivalent)

- Strong understanding of software deployment processes and methodologies.
- Experience with troubleshooting and resolving application issues.
- Familiarity with various operating systems and their application environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Additional Information:
- The candidate should have minimum 3 years of experience in Application Packaging.
- This position is based at our Gurugram office.
- A 15 years full time education is required.
