Job Summary:
The Legal Counsel - Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy is a permanent and full-time manager role to be filled by an experienced data privacy professional. The successful candidate will have a solid data privacy background and be able to demonstrate strong interest and experience in AI, digital and technology. The role is part of Accenture’s Global Data Privacy Team. Accenture prefers to fill the role in India or the Philippines. IAPP professional certification(s) (CIPP/E, CIPM) or equivalents are preferred.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the Accenture’s Global Data Privacy team, the role will include the following data privacy responsibilities:
- Provide subject matter expertise and advice to internal corporate and client facing functions globally in respect of data privacy, privacy risk management, privacy reviews, incident handling and individual rights requests.
- Support and drive development or improvement of the data privacy team’s processes and internal tools, and methodologies for governance and risk management in a data privacy context.
- Conduct privacy reviews of new or existing internal projects and/or client facing and other data privacy compliance strategic projects on regional and global scale. Act as an expert on data privacy topics related to the processing of personal data within Accenture’s internal functions and client facing services.
- Effectively work with the regional and local stakeholders to create and maintain suitable privacy review processes and embed privacy by design methodology into relevant business processes.
The role will also closely collaborate with other legal functions, especially with Employment Law and Geographic Compliance & Corporate teams and with colleagues in Corporate Functions including the Data Privacy and Information Security Leads. Effectively work with the other DP team roles on global DP initiatives and projects and Data Privacy and Information Security Leads, where required.
The role will require the successful candidate to stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments related to data privacy and adjacent fields/areas/topics, including public policy, regional data privacy regulation and standards that potentially impact Accenture and our clients’ ability to comply with local DP requirements. Further responsibilities related to the above may be aligned with the role in accordance with the needs of the team.

- Must have ability to effectively work with others remotely and independently and manage a schedule with global clients and internal POC.
Knowledge And Skill Requirements
- Demonstrate data privacy and data security expertise of global data privacy and related laws.
- Demonstrate experience in project/program management and operational skills to lead cross-functional projects, especially in a multi-cultural environment.
- Be able to explain difficult-to-understand ideas, processes, or plans in simple terms, enhance simplification.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface, and develop relationships, with all levels of management and staff, and work cross-culturally.
- Able to think out of the box, work independently and collaboratively across various levels and to bridge different views and requirements.
- Confidence and credibility in dealing with and managing stakeholder and senior leadership within the corporate functions, outside counsel, other Legal team members.
- Able to consistently exercise good judgment to apply company policy and procedure in risk mitigation and timely escalate issues to the line manager.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Education
- University law degree (Master or comparable level).
- CIPP/CIPM or comparable privacy certification are a plus.
Work experience
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in global data privacy law and practice, preferably at a global company or in technology and IT sector.
- Experience and expertise with major national data privacy legislation, and with cross border privacy issues.
- Full proficiency in English (both spoken and written).
- Knowledge of information and communication technologies or a technology degree or qualification.
- Experience in monitoring privacy trends and developments and translating those into actionable requirements.
- Experience in managing data subject access requests and regulatory enquiries.
