How I put change in motion

I am a Senior Manager and lead our Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) practice in the U.K., responsible for implementing marketing automation software for our clients. Organizations use this software to send outbound communications such as brand newsletters or SMS and email notifications for customer retail orders.

We recently created the first implementation of a connected device to Salesforce Marketing Cloud at Accenture. It was really exciting to understand how data from a device could be used in-app to create personalized experiences for device users. We also created a solution for a retail client that allows customers to reply “yes” via SMS and have an entire order created in their eCommerce platform and sent through to fulfillment.

I apply my tech knowledge as well as previous experience as a platform end user to all my projects, which allows me to really understand my clients’ pain points and help customize solutions. My team and I work hard to bring this empathy to all our engagements, putting ourselves in our clients’ and their customers’ shoes. At the end of the day, we’re just trying to make people’s lives easier.

I really enjoy working across different industries in my role. Working with such a diverse variety of clients allows us to see both their unique challenges as well as the ones faced across multiple industries.

A day in my life

The people at Accenture are incredible, and I’ve built a strong network. Everyone is willing to help each other, and I spend a reasonable portion of my week helping others as well.

Here's a peek at what my “typical” day might include:

  • Preparing a new client pitch or proposal.
  • Checking in with my team on project progress and potential challenges.
  • Performing a quality-assurance review of an existing project.
  • Writing and reviewing documentation before it goes to clients.
  • Connecting with the Salesforce team to discuss potential or existing clients.
  • Holding catch-up meetings with both my career counselees to provide guidance and with managing directors to discuss how I can support their clients.

My advice

As someone who didn’t study computer science and isn’t a natural technologist, I can tell you that transferring to a technology field is not that scary. Keep an open mind and a learning mindset, and enjoy the exponential learning curve.
