It draws on two of Accenture’s core capabilities: training talent and convening partnerships to achieve tangible, measurable results. By mobilizing our people, partners, clients and others, we strive to make a measurable and sustainable difference in the economic vitality and resilience of individuals, families and communities.
By the end of fiscal 2020, together with our strategic partners, we will pursue the following targets:
Demand-led skilling: Equip more than 3 million people with the skills to get a job or build a business.
Employment and entrepreneurship outcomes: Increase our focus on the successful transition from skill-building programs to sustainable jobs and businesses, and improve our collective ability to measure and report on these outcomes.
Collaboration for systemic change: Bring together organizations across sectors to create large-scale, lasting solutions aimed at closing global employment gaps.
Since fiscal 2011, Accenture has equipped more than 1.2 million people with workplace and entrepreneurial skills.
Our people are the driving force behind our Skills to Succeed initiative, and it is an enormous source of pride for them. They share their time, skills and counsel by volunteering and providing pro bono services for activities such as conducting soft skills workshops for jobseekers, creating new technology solutions for skills training, implementing new technology platforms for our nonprofit partners and providing long-term mentoring support for entrepreneurs.
Fostering sustainable economic growth for our company and our clients is at the heart of our environmental strategy, and is central to our vision for improving the way the world works and lives.
Our environmental strategy focuses on three areas: running efficient operations that reduce emissions and other impacts; enabling client and supplier sustainability; and engaging our people, leaders, partners and other stakeholders — and it’s working: fiscal 2015 was the most energy efficient year in our company’s history. We have reduced our per employee carbon emissions by more than 47 percent against our fiscal 2007 baseline—an eight-year reduction from an average of 4.04 to 2.14 metric tons of CO2 per employee. We also purchased more than 30 percent more renewable kilowatt-hours compared to fiscal 2014.
But we’re not resting on our laurels. We started a pilot to track environmental, social and governance performance with our suppliers. And by the end of fiscal 2020, we will reduce our per employee carbon emissions by more than 50 percent against our fiscal 2007 baseline. It’s these kinds of efforts that have landed us on CDP’s “Climate A List” and the FTSE4Good Global Index, and kept us on the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index for 11 consecutive years.
Our people around the world develop innovative approaches to eco-smart work practices and support our efforts to drive their adoption across our geographies through Smart Work programs, Travel Smart Challenges and eco volunteerism. They also help our clients with business strategies and technology solutions — and that includes helping them improve their sustainability performance. As a company, Accenture supports the UN Secretary General’s Initiative, SE4All, which aims to provide access to sustainable energy to the 1.3 billion people who do not have it.Learn more about Accenture and the environment.

We help our people maximize the impact of their personal contributions by providing convenient channels to offer time, services and financial assistance to our nonprofit partners. In fiscal 2015, Accenture people donated more than US$8.7 million to charitable causes through Accenture, and contributed more than 620,000 hours of time to corporate citizenship activities during work hours, including pro bono consulting projects.
