Summary:
Technology Account Lead (Communications & Media), you will serve as the primary contact for STB/Smart TV platform engineering initiatives at each client account. Your typical day involves working with product, platform, and operations stakeholders to define roadmaps, translate business needs into technical solutions, and drive delivery across Linux/Android-based Set-Top Boxes and Smart TV software. You will contribute to end-to-end execution—from platform design and middleware integration to video playback quality, DRM compliance, and release governance—ensuring high-performance, reliable consumer experiences at scale.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert for C&M device platforms (STB/Smart TV) covering OS, middleware, and video pipeline fundamentals.
- Partner with client stakeholders (Product, Platform Engineering, Device Ops, Security/Compliance, QA) to shape platform strategy, release plans, and success metrics (startup time, AV sync, latency, crash-free sessions, quality KPIs).
- Own technical solutioning, estimation, and delivery planning for new features, platform upgrades, and migrations (Linux/Android versions, vendor BSP updates, middleware refresh).
- Drive architecture/design reviews for STB/TV software components including boot flow, HAL/BSP layers, device services, application frameworks, and OTA update approach.
- Lead integration across ecosystem components: IPTV/OTT apps, EPG, CAS/DRM, analytics, CDN, and home networking manage cross-team dependencies and risks.
- Provide guidance on video playback and streaming topics: ABR tuning, buffering behavior, low-latency modes, subtitle/closed captions, audio passthrough, HDR/SDR handling.
- Ensure compliance and security requirements are met (DRM robustness, secure video path/TEE, key handling, secure boot, vulnerability triage).
- Establish engineering best practices: coding standards, CI/CD, automated testing, field diagnostics, crash triage, log/telemetry strategy, and change/release governance.
- Support escalations and field issue resolution (playback failures, DRM/license errors, AV sync, memory leaks, thermal/performance constraints) using structured RCA and corrective actions.
- Mentor junior professionals and enable consistent documentation (HLD/LLD, API contracts, integration guides, test plans, release notes).
Professional & Technical Skills:
- Must Have Skills: Experience in STB/Smart TV software design and development for Communications & Media domain.
- Must Have Skills: Strong Linux and/or Android platform expertise for STB devices (Yocto/build systems, Android framework, HAL, services, init/boot, SELinux basics).
- Must Have Skills: Solid understanding of video playback pipeline and video codecs (e.g., H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, VP9, AV1) and audio formats familiarity with HW acceleration and performance constraints.
- Hands-on experience with streaming protocols and packaging (HLS, MPEG-DASH, CMAF) and DRM ecosystems (e.g., Widevine/PlayReady concepts) including license flows and robustness levels.
- Good knowledge of media frameworks and tooling (e.g., GStreamer/FFmpeg concepts, MediaCodec/ExoPlayer concepts, demux/decode/render stages, ABR logic).
- Experience integrating device peripherals and system services: remote control input, HDMI-CEC, Wi-Fi/Ethernet, Bluetooth, USB, storage, and power management.
- Strong debugging skills on embedded targets (gdb, logs/traces, perf/top, memory profiling, tombstones/coredumps), plus network troubleshooting (packet capture, latency/bandwidth analysis).
- Understanding of OTA/upgrade mechanisms, backward compatibility, and fleet management considerations for deployed devices.
Additional Information:
- The candidate should have minimum 18 years of experience in Communications & Media device/platform engineering with STB/Smart TV exposure.
- This position is based at our Bengaluru office.
