Dr. Athina Kanioura
Chief Analytics Officer & Global Lead – Applied Intelligence
Dr. Athina Kanioura is Accenture’s chief analytics officer and the global lead of Accenture’s Applied Intelligence practice. An accomplished innovator and data scientist, Athina helps clients across industries and geographies leverage and scale Artificial Intelligence, analytics and automation to generate long-term business value. From her time as a founding member of Accenture’s analytics business to her most recent role as Accenture’s chief data scientist, her focus is always on delivering data-driven insights to power clients’ businesses.
Athina has grown Accenture’s data and analytics organization from a subspecialty to a global Applied Intelligence business at the forefront of AI transformation. During her tenure in Accenture’s analytics business she ran Sales and Customer Analytics globally and drove the company's offering development around customer relationship management and personalization.
Athina specializes in data science, applied statistics, machine learning and computer vision, and has many years of practical experience in applying AI and analytics to industries such as telecommunications, oil and gas, consumer packaged goods, and financial services, amongst others. Her strong perspective on the importance of continuous learning—in the classroom and the boardroom—enabled her to recruit a team of 3,000 data scientists and 6,000 AI experts to tackle enterprise-scale applications.
Athina is passionate about harnessing the power of Applied Intelligence as a force for good. She is a member of the Royal Statistical and Economics Society, where she contributes to shaping government policy around how data is used by bodies like the IMF. Athina sits on the board of the Institute of Marketing Sciences. She is also a keen educator who has held lectureships at UMIST (UK), Imperial College London (UK) and the University of Sheffield (UK). She has also patented AI innovations and has several patents pending.
Athina is frequently recognized as leader in her field. Most recently, in 2019, Data Economy Magazine included Athina in their ‘Power Women 50’—showcasing the women at the forefront of the data center, cloud and data sectors across the world. Athina was also listed in Constellation Research’s ‘2020 Business Transformation 150’ in recognition of her work to help reinvent the modern organization through digital transformation.
Athina joined Accenture in 2005. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Maritime Economics and in Applied Economics from the University of Piraeus (Greece), a Master’s in Economics and Finance and a Ph.D. in Macroeconomics and Econometrics both from the University of Sheffield (UK).
