The G20 is the international forum bringing together the world's major economies. The involved countries account for 60% of the population of the planet and more than 80% of world GDP.
Last December, Italy assumed the G20 2021 Presidency and identified three main priorities to focus on: people, planet, prosperity.
The G20 Final Summit took place on October 30th and 31st, 2021.
Meanwhile, representatives from across the economy and civil society worked together in engagement groups to submit formal recommendations to the Presidency.
This year, the engagement groups focused on the following topics: business (B20), labour (L20), youth development (Y20), women’s empowerment (W20), urban policies (U20), sustainable development and the fight against inequalities (C20), scientific research (S20), and global governance (T20).
Accenture has been supporting G20 since 2010, by providing policy development, research and consulting services, through a dedicated team of expert consultants and researchers.
Accenture is proud of having supported the B20, one of the most influential G20 engagement groups, as knowledge partner for the Employment & Education task force and the special initiative on Women’s Empowerment.
As knowledge partner, Accenture worked together with Confindustria (the main association representing manufacturing and service companies in Italy), which was responsible for guiding all the activities and producing recommendations to “reshape the future” after the pandemic crisis.
Task force leadership
Our Chair & CEO Julie Sweet was personally involved in the Employment & Education task force as a member.
In her role, she provided key contributions and guidance to the development and advocacy of the policy recommendations.
Julie worked with other prominent CEOs and business organization leaders appointed by Confindustria to develop recommendations that drive growth and innovation, and ensure inclusive opportunities for all in the future of work.
B20 activities officially began with the inception meeting. The inception meeting consisted of a public event involving prominent representatives from policymaking, international organizations and major companies' CEOs, and a closed-door event, targeting B20 members only.
The inception meeting represented the kick-off of the operational work within the taskforce. From that point, task force members interacted monthly to develop the policy paper which was completed by July and delivered to the Presidency for inclusion in the final Communiqué by the end of September.
Additional meetings were held to facilitate a constructive dialogue on the actions proposed to G20 leaders.
The B20 Final Summit was held on October 7th and 8th, 2021.
