Hey, welcome to the Accenture Graduate blog! My name is Alice, I joined as an Analyst in May 2017 and currently live in the Digital group, but we'll talk about that in a later post. If you're visiting because you're interested in joining Accenture I only have this to say: DO IT. You will never meet a finer group of people, be so challenged and have so much fun every day. Trust me, jobs like this one are hard to find.
So how did I end up here? After I finished off my Masters in Chemistry at Edinburgh I worked at a boutique consultancy in Chester for almost 2 years. I'll tell you what, after 2 years working with the same clients, on the same projects in the same tiny town... I was bored beyond belief. So, I applied to Accenture and haven't looked back.
Genuine photograph of me after I got the offer.
If you've decided that you'd like to apply to work at Accenture, the next step is actually getting the job, right? Here are my top tips for success;
Do your research; It’s a pain, it takes forever but it’s 100% worth it. You should know the company and be able to speak to what makes Accenture different to other consulting firms *cough* innovation *cough* technology *cough*.
Read the correspondence carefully: If you are invited to assessment centre, Accenture have already decided you're interesting. Believe it or not, they want to hire you, give them a reason to! I'm not just talking about the obvious dress code, be on time, get lots of sleep. The emails will tell you exactly what you need to prepare to talk about. How kind is that? It's like knowing the questions before the exam!
At the assessment centre, relax: I know, I know; easier said than done. But trust me, if you can relax and be yourself you'll come across much better and have a good time. The best way I found to do that was by getting to know the other applicants in a genuine way. They will be nervous too!
At the assessment centre, collaborate: One of Accenture's core values is 'ne global network', we are all about leveraging each other's skills to achieve a mutual goal. Show you are a team player, help bring out the best in the other applicants. This isn't an episode of The Apprentice (even if it feels a bit like it), you're not in direct competition for a position and the best way to prove you're a team player is by being one!
A certain entrepreneur turned reality TV personality applied to the grad scheme but was unsuccessful. Ok that's actually a lie.
All this will pass and before you know it, you'll be a certified Accenture Analyst, strolling around any of the UK offices like you've been there forever. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to be building robots for a major insurance firm? Or perhaps you'll be working on a digital transformation project for a branch of government? Whatever it is, when you work at Accenture you can be sure of two things; variety and impact. A million miles from where I started: on the same projects, for the same clients in the same tiny town.
