What is the future of work?
The future of work helps companies anticipate change management and prepare for the demands of a shifting workforce. The way we work has changed forever and will continue to evolve fast because new digital capabilities are changing human expectations. To manage this, companies must offer equitable experiences and opportunities that include: new skilling, hybrid work models, and responsible leadership. Putting people first, together with investing in new and intelligent technologies, will create new, enhanced business value.
What factors will shape the future of work?
Due to the pandemic, the future of work has become the present. The nature of work shifted from onsite to remote overnight, and people and companies were forced to embrace change abruptly. Now, the intersection of evolving human expectations and the acceleration of digital capabilities is redefining work. People will request hybrid work models; workforce skilling opportunities (especially when it comes to digital skills related to new technologies, such as AI or cloud); and sustainable, responsible organizations that lead with purpose, while caring both for the environment and their people. Enhanced digital capabilities will require enhanced human + machine collaboration; increased digital fluency and trust; and growth of new ecosystems.
Why is hybrid work so appealing?
Hybrid work brings together the best of both worlds. Workers who had a hybrid work model during COVID-19 had better mental health, stronger work relationships and were more likely to feel Net Better Off as a result of working for their organizations. They also experienced less burnout than those who worked entirely onsite or entirely remotely.
