What I do

I design and deliver business solutions and applications for clients. By collaborating with users, developers, technical architects and system managers, I help figure out how a business solution can help clients achieve their objectives.

I am currently working with some of Singapore’s sovereign wealth institutions on revamping their investment processes and workflow applications.

A day in my life

No two days are alike! My work is project-based, and these projects usually involve software application development, which runs on Agile methodology.

My day starts with a workshop session with clients to better understand their business needs. I would then work with technical teams to translate the client’s goals into a mock-up of the business application. Once the application is built, I run multiple tests to ensure that it works smoothly. As it goes live, I put on my app support hat as the point-of-contact for client management and troubleshooting. Life at Accenture is full of learning opportunities as some tasks involve the entire software development lifecycle of a project.

Being hearing impaired, I joined the PWD Connect committee in Singapore as part of Accenture’s commitment to help foster an inclusive and equal community. Every other month, I help roll out internal initiatives to enable undergraduate students with special needs to find their desired jobs, engage the public on PWD issues and enable our employees with disabilities to do their work more easily.

Just before the week ends, I wind down by participating in Technology Analyst Program (TAP) initiatives. TAP is a technology analyst community where we get to connect with peers, mentors and Accenture leaders about our career journey. I facilitate fireside chats with managing directors to get insights from their experiences and life stories.

In my spare time, I enjoy watching films (to date, I’ve watched 830 movies), doing street photography and mixing cocktails for my friends.

My advice

For people like me who are hard of hearing, it is even more important to establish more inclusive and effective workplace communications for all. Keep conversations open with your clients and colleagues, write everything down and don’t hesitate to ask questions!
