Job Description
Job Responsibilities:
  • Complete configuration, installation and support of equipment in a Unix environment to the specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Server related issues by providing both on-site/remote DataCenter and AWS.
  • Deploy Servers on a VMWare based platform.
  • Creation of automated procedures to streamline maintenance and support
  • Installation/Upgrade & Configuration of Servers - Network Configuration, Firmware Install, OS Install, Filesystem Configuration.
  • Handle most of basic to advanced calls in User, group management, system start-up, service modification, crontab entires, ACL modifications, file system management, root & OS backups
  • Service Management - NIS/NIS+/DNS/NFS/Samba/Send Mail, Capacity Planning.
  • Server Management, Backup, with the help of the tool provided. Any proactive monitoring tools i.e. ManageEngine, Veritas OpsCenter and etc will be added Advantage.
  • Be able to do performance tuning, Apache and web applications etc.
  • Communicate technical contents with Vendors and able to perform Vendor management
  • Installation & Configuration of Linux Operating system with Hardware vendors.
  • Jumpstart Environment Management - Develop Standards & Policies, Set Images, develop/Maintain scripts.
  • Provide Server Performance Analysis & Capacity Management

Engineer Job Duties:

  • Perform firmware upgrade in Linux Platform. Patch implementation & maintenance, Licensing, Boot Prom Management and Performance Management.
  • Hands-On and Troubleshooting knowledge on VM virtualization environment (VMware)
  • Troubleshoot and apply fix issues arising on RHEL Linux Environment
  • Server Management, Backup, with the help of the available tools. Any proactive monitoring tools i.e. ManageEngine, Veritas OpsCenter.
  • Experience in any backup management software i.e. NetBackup, HP Tape Library
  • Working Knowledge of Linux cluster
  • Establishes Linux environment by building system configuration based on Design specifications; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
  • Maximizes Unix Infrastructure performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with architects on system optimization.
  • Secures Unix systems by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.
  • Creation of Standard Operating Procedures, Infrastructure Diagrams involved in the project
  • Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Reporting operational status by gathering, prioritizing information; managing projects.
Operational Duties:
  • Maintaining operating systems and doing regular maintenance and patching using YUM/RHEL Satellite.
  • Incident Management: Proactive checkouts and monitoring to avoid service outages or limit their impact. Troubleshooting and fault isolation to restore service when necessary
  • Problem Management: Create solutions from Incident Management Case Study evaluations. This includes development of the related root cause flow charts and troubleshooting procedures that streamline the time required to isolate faults, restore service and prevention of similar incidents from reoccurring
  • Monitor Systems health and do proactive maintenance
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Preferably 5+ years of Linux working experience and at least 3 yearrs in supporting customer on Production system administration area.
  • Sound Knowledge in Linux Operating system, NFS, NIS, GFS and other Unix Infra FileSystem
  • Knowledgeable in implementation of Security Hardening in the Unix landscape
  • Experience in Server Management, Backup, with the help of the tool provided. Any proactive monitoring tools i.e. ManageEngine, Veritas OpsCenter and etc will be added Advantage.
  • Knowledge on LINUX/UNIX shell scripting will be an advantage
  • Preferred Certification in any of UNIX flavor (e.g. RHEL 6 and up)
  • Operations:
    • Knowledge on ITIL processes and standards
    • Interpersonal sensitivity and customer responsiveness with good spoken and written communication skills, team working skills & require shift operations.
    • Ability to work in a team oriented environment is essential
    • 24/7 Operations Environment with rotating shifts
