Job Summary
The Licensing Specialist - SAM will support SAP-focused license compliance, ELP preparation and SAM operations. The role is expected to interpret SAP licensing terms, analyze user and engine consumption, validate entitlement records, support data collection, and prepare defensible compliance outputs. The role should also have good understanding of SAM processes, experience with Tier-2 and Tier-3 publishers, and hands-on experience with either Flexera or ServiceNow SAM Pro.
Key Responsibilities
SAP licensing analysis: Analyze SAP license models, agreements, product terms, user classifications, engine metrics, HANA metrics, S/4HANA implications and indirect or digital access considerations.
ELP preparation: Prepare SAP ELP inputs by mapping entitlements, user and engine data, usage extracts, deployment records, contract rights and assumptions.
Usage data extraction: Work with business, Basis and application teams to obtain and interpret SAP usage outputs from tools such as USMM, SLAW, LAW, LMBI, HANA Cockpit or relevant client extracts.
User and role validation: Review named users, professional or limited professional classifications, inactive users, duplicate users, role assignments and potential misclassification risks.
Entitlement review: Validate SAP purchase records, agreements, support status, product bundles, subscription terms and license quantities against tool and portal records.
Tier-2 and Tier-3 publisher support: Apply structured SAM methodology for additional publishers where required, including entitlement capture, deployment review, reconciliation and reporting.
Tool-enabled analysis: Use Flexera or ServiceNow SAM Pro to support entitlement upload, software model review, normalization, license reconciliation and compliance reporting.
Discovery validation: Understand discovery data sources and validate whether software inventory, user access, server, SaaS and CMDB records are complete and reliable for ELP purposes.
Risk and optimization identification: Identify license surplus, deficit, misclassified access, inactive usage, support risk and optimization opportunities for remediation.
Documentation: Maintain workpapers, calculation logic, evidence references, assumption logs, exclusion notes and stakeholder review outputs.
Stakeholder coordination: Coordinate with SAM leads, business owners, application teams, procurement and contract teams to close data gaps and validate findings.
SAM process: Strong understanding of SAM lifecycle activities including entitlement management, discovery validation, inventory normalization, reconciliation, compliance reporting and optimization.
Preferred Experience and Credentials
Recommended 4+ years of SAM / ITAM experience with 2+ years in SAP licensing or compliance support.
Experience in annual SAP audits, license measurement preparation, user classification remediation or SAP usage optimization is preferred.
Working knowledge of at least two Tier-2 or Tier-3 publishers such as Adobe, VMware, Red Hat, ServiceNow, Citrix, Quest or BMC is preferred.
Certifications such as CSAM, SAP licensing, Flexera or ServiceNow SAM Pro are an added advantage.
