Nature-based carbon removal

To achieve net-zero emissions by 2025, we’re investing in additive nature-based carbon removal solutions—the majority will be proprietary to Accenture.

Contributing to low-carbon sustainable development

As a global company, we're making significant progress to be net-zero by 2025 by committing to power our offices with 100% renewable electricity by 2023; engaging key suppliers to reduce their emissions; and being thoughtful about how we travel.

To achieve net-zero emissions by 2025, we’ll focus first on actual reductions across our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. To address remaining emissions, we will invest in nature-based carbon removal solutions that directly remove carbon emissions from the atmosphere.

The projects we are putting in place will rebuild biodiversity, make agriculture more sustainable and help create green jobs, all while removing carbon—and all in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on SDG 13: Climate Action.

At Global Citizen Live, we shared how we’re investing in nature-based carbon removal solutions to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Watch the video to learn more.

Delivering positive sustainable development

Anticipated positive impacts include alignment with SDGs 1: No poverty, 8: Decent work and economic growth, 13: Climate action and 15: Life on land.

We have established reporting procedures throughout our project portfolio to ensure direct line-of-sight to activities on the ground, quality control and alignment to the universal principles of the United Nations Global Compact.

Carbon removal will be measured and verified under leading carbon standards, including the Verified Carbon Standard and the American Carbon Registry Standard.

In order to ensure that the sustainable development co-benefits of our projects are real and measurable, we have committed to using the SD VISta framework at scale. SD VISta is a flexible framework that will robustly measure and verify the SDG outcomes of our projects beyond carbon removal.

Our portfolio of projects

Our carbon removal projects support our goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2025. This aligns with our pledge to do our part to keep global warming below 1.5° Celsius, in line with climate science.

The project locations will align with our geographic footprint.

Our projects will be registered under the SD VISta standard, where technically feasible, verifying SDG outcomes along with the carbon removals.

Over the next 20 years, the projects are expected to remove an estimated 13+ million metric tons of carbon.

Agroforestry in Indonesia

Our project in Indonesia will remove carbon emissions from the atmosphere, build climate resilience, create jobs and improve the ecosystem by making agriculture more sustainable and rebuilding biodiversity. We will do this by diversifying revenues for local farmers and communities—for example, through planting fruit trees.

More projects will be announced soon.
