Senior Automation and Control Systems Lead Engineer
As a Senior Automation and Controls Engineer, you will leverage your extensive experience to design, implement, and maintain advanced automation and instrumentation systems. You will play a key role in upgrading PLC and SCADA systems, ensuring efficient operation of systems, while also mentoring the next generation of engineers.
Working with our dynamic Industry X team, you'll be instrumental in enhancing our Control Systems and Operational Technology practice and capabilities (PLC, SCADA, Safety, Telemetry and Industrial IT), creating innovative solutions that redefine industry standards.

Our Industry X engineering team provides electrical and process control engineering, procurement, construction and management services to the mining, oil and gas, infrastructure, and manufacturing industries across Australia and overseas.
THE WORK:
- System Design and Upgrades: Lead and execute PLC and SCADA upgrades, including designing and implementing new systems to enhance operational efficiency.
- Automation and Instrumentation: Utilize your practical site experience to manage and troubleshoot automation and instrumentation systems. Ensure systems are operating at optimal levels.
- Commissioning and Fault Diagnosis: Oversee the commissioning of new systems and conduct fault diagnosis to swiftly resolve any issues, minimizing downtime and operational disruption.
- Documentation: Produce high-quality technical documentation, including system design specifications, operational procedures, and maintenance manuals.
- Mentorship: Act as a mentor to junior engineers, providing guidance and support to foster their professional development.
- Communication and Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met. Utilize strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate technical concepts.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure all systems comply with functional safety standards and contribute to safety audits and assessments. TUV Certification is highly regarded.
Qualifications
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Education: Degree-qualified Engineer with a focus in Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: At least 10 years of experience in industry, with a solid background in automation and controls, electrical and instrumentation systems. Hands-on and practical site experience with PLC/SCADA products/ electrical and instrumentation systems. Preference for industry experience in mining, chemical, utilities, water, natural resources, or power industries.
Technical Skills:
Extensive experience with a range of PLC, SCADA, RTU, and DCS types and applications.
Proficiency in LV Electrical Design, telemetry systems, SQL databases, and communications networks.
Practical experience in commissioning, fault diagnosis, and system upgrades essential.
Electrical engineering experience, including HA, ELV & LV design.
TUV Machine Safety, TUV Functional Safety, RPEQ an advantage
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE / PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES / PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:
Previous experience with Managing and developing an Engineering team
Project Management, estimating and preparing quotation experience
Practical Site experience of automation systems (commissioning and fault-finding experience essential)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Supervisory experience an advantage
Previous experience with Wonderware (Intouch)
