Adapt to the new global reality by enhancing supply chain risk management, stress testing supply chain resilience, and improving agility.
Intelligent and resilient supply chains
Managing risk and boosting resilience across the supply chain has never been more important.
In the new global reality, Chief Supply Chain Officers need supply chains that don’t just minimize day-to-day risk, but can also absorb, adapt to, and recover from catastrophic disruption whenever and wherever it strikes.
This means being proactive about risk and developing a resilience DNA throughout the supply chain.
"The COVID-19 pandemic exposed considerable weaknesses, resulting in severe disruptions, in supply chains around the globe, shedding light on the need for intelligent supply chains that prioritize transparency, anticipate new disruptions and enable faster decision-making."
— Kris Timmermans, Senior Managing Director – Strategy & Consulting, Supply Chain & Operations Global Lead
Resilience objectives
Intelligent and resilient supply chains are:
Lower risk
Risk-aware and able to sense major disruption—and respond quickly.
Secure
Purposefully safer, able to keep people and products healthy and secure.
Transparent
Unfailingly visible to customers across all products and channels.
Adaptive
Flexible and decisive in response to changing supply and demand patterns.
Fast
Able to leverage data science to react to disruption quickly and confidently.
Optimized
As cost-efficient as possible throughout the supply chain network.

Enhance your ability to adapt, respond and recover
Supply chain resilience is about managing and adapting to the unknown across the whole spectrum of risk—from day-to-day operational risks through to catastrophic supply chain disruption.
Operational risk
Respond to sudden supply chain changes with improved real-time visibility and risk identification and mitigation solutions.
Tactical risk
Adapt to evolving supply/demand with scenario planning and modeling, plus risk/opportunity analysis, as part of sales and operations planning.
Strategic risk
Manage uncertainty by boosting flexibility and capacity through network modeling and simulation, strategic buffer sizing, and multi-sourcing options.
Resilient supply chain
Enhance your ability to adapt to and recover from major disruption by identifying points of potential failure through a Resilience Stress Test.

Stress test your supply chain resilience
Accenture and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed a supply chain resilience stress test for assessing the operational and financial risks created by disasters or other catastrophic events.
Inspired by the financial services stress tests that became compulsory after the 2008 financial crisis, this initiative aims to create a global standard for the data-driven strategic assessment of supply chain resilience.
Leveraging Accenture’s extensive expertise in supply chain, operations and analytics, and MIT’s leading research and capabilities in data science, the stress test will quantify supply chain resilience in a single index.
Organizations will be able to quickly identify potential points of supply chain failure, assess their related financial exposure, define appropriate mitigation strategies and actions, and benchmark resilience against their peers.
"The stress test will allow companies to understand the resiliency of their supply chains, recognize weak links and act quickly to balance the impact of unprecedented events on customers, operations and finances."
— David Simchi-Levi, Professor of Engineering at MIT
Accenture and MIT’s stress test
How does it work?
Map the entire supply chain through a digital twin and run disruption scenarios (including variants and combinations)
Get a Pass/No Pass assessment for each scenario based on two critical metrics (time to survive, time to recover) and financial implications
Assess maturity of end-to-end supply chain risk management
What’s the objective?
Quantify the resilience of the supply chain (as a percentage of scenarios passed)
Identify potential points of failure
Define mitigation strategies and actions
Assess the related financial exposure
Who can benefit?
Companies in need of a recurring strategic data-driven supply chain risk management capability for assessing the resilience of current or envisioned supply chain models
Organizations that want to proactively mitigate the impact of one-off events
Governments and regulators looking to assess the exposure of strategically critical industries
