What we do

Movement to Work is an employer-led charity which was co-founded by Accenture in 2013. It offers young people from disadvantaged backgrounds access to transformational work experience placements, linked to real jobs, with 100+ employers across the UK. It is backed by the UK Government and key bodies such as the Trades Union Congress (TUC), and includes within its employer network M&S, BT, Diageo, Tesco, and Salesforce.

Its aim is to help young people overcome the barrier created by a lack of work experience or previous employment. By supporting organisations of all shapes and sizes to unlock the potential of these young people, through quality work placement opportunities, Movement to Work can help drive business performance and bring about lasting social change.

Over 155,000 opportunities have been delivered to young people with life-changing outcomes; over 60% have gained employment or a route back into training and education.

The need

Movement to Work was co-founded at a time of record youth unemployment with the aim to address one of the biggest barriers into work for young people - the cycle of ‘no job - no experience; no experience - no job’.

Young people are increasingly worried as the sectors that many work in, including retail and hospitality, have been disproportionately affected by recent events.

As youth unemployment rates once again rapidly increase, the need for collective and effective action from business, civil society and government is required more than ever.

Our approach

Movement to Work brings together employers to offer young people access to transformational work experience opportunities which are linked to entry-level jobs or apprenticeships to create sustainable employment outcomes.

We co-founded Movement to Work with the aim of providing 100,000 young unemployed people with the training and work experience they need to find employment.

Accenture has committed to delivering in-house placements equivalent to ~1% of our UK permanent workforce each year.

We offer multi-week placements which include vocational training, employability skills and meaningful work experience to help kick-start careers in technology and consulting.

We support participants to apply for Accenture’s Technology and Consulting Degree apprenticeship programmes as well as job opportunities with other corporates and SMEs.

The outcomes

Movement to Work comprises of 100+ member organisations including FTSE 100 companies such as M&S, BT, Diageo, Tesco, Salesforce; numerous small and medium enterprises; the Civil Service, British Army, and the NHS.

Employers design and roll out placements to complement their own business and operating model.
