I see myself as a very practical person. Every book I’ve ever read has been some kind of personal development book. And I truly believe that everything I know right now, I learned from someone else. Coming here alone from Nigeria means I’ve had to make decisions for myself. And learning from and about others has helped me do that.
For me, it’s a simple as this: we’re all part of one ecosystem, an ecosystem of living things that are all shapes and sizes. We must learn from each other to survive. It’s what I always come back to. Essentially, the idea that my identity and other peoples’ identities, they’re made up. They’re there to help us understand how we fit into the world.
Some parts of them are fixed, like my nationality. I can’t change that. But I can change how I react to it. Where’s others are fluid, and I can decide them. To me, identity is by our design. It’s whatever we want it to be.
