Life at Accenture

We’re always looking for a diverse range of people, talents and ideas to contribute to what we do. Which is where you come in.

As one of the world’s leading consulting and technology organisations, we achieve amazing things for our clients every day – whether that’s increasing profits, gaining a greater market share, redefining strategies, working with new technologies or offering better customer experiences.

What We Do

In short, we examine a client’s organisation, work out how best to improve it, and implement agreed actions to bring about positive, lasting and profitable change. For us, it’s not just about coming up with the big ideas, it’s also about successfully delivering and implementing them.

Every organisation relies on technology, which means that our solutions will lean heavily on improving what and how technology is used in order to make businesses more successful. We are also about being at the forefront of innovation – understanding everything there is to know about the latest technologies, and using them to help our clients become even better. Exactly what the solutions we propose are varies tremendously. After all, no two clients are the same and no two clients face the same challenges. So we would never propose a one-size-fits-all solution.

To find out more about how a typical consultancy project evolves at Accenture, visit our Project Lifecycle. It's a dynamic account of how we work with our clients here at Accenture. You'll be able to find out what goes into a successful project; the individuals and teams involved, and the sort of the conversations they have. Told through a blog from all kinds of angles, the Project Lifecycle will help you understand the type of work you could be doing if you join us as a graduate.

Our Business

We work with 4000 companies in 120 countries. To manage the broad spectrum of challenges our clients face, our business needs to be diverse, which is why we’ve set up our organisation across five business areas:

How do businesses transform? Where should they be going? How can they get there? These overarching questions will determine the success of any organisation. Within Accenture Strategy we help our clients set out their goals for the future and how they can achieve them.

Accenture Consulting has the insights to transform companies and the capabilities to do it. We work in partnership with our clients to help them become better businesses, advising them on tools they should use and how they should implement them.

Digital is an essential part of every business. But not every business knows how to make the best use of it. Using industry-leading professionals and a host of digital expertise, Accenture Digital helps our clients do just that.

New technologies arrive on the market at an incredible pace. In Accenture Technology, we investigate and explore them to determine how our clients can use them – helping their businesses innovate, grow and improve.

Accenture Operations manages the transactional data and processes for many of our clients. Using process expertise and deep industry knowledge, we help our clients gain new insights and achieve greater efficiency.

It’s this combination of expertise that allows us to deliver the end-to-end solutions that set us apart in the marketplace. It also means we’re always looking for a diverse range of people, talents and ideas to contribute to what we do. Which is where you come in.

So if you’re looking for the spectrum of opportunities and experiences that can build a multitude of skills, then there’s no better place to start your career.

As a graduate, you won’t just be joining Accenture, you’ll be plugging in to a ready-made community of like-minded people who you can learn with and from as you progress your career. You’ll share experiences, tips and advice – even a well-earned social event.

Depending on which programme you apply to, you could join the Analyst Consulting Group (ACG) or the Technology Analyst Group (TAG).

What is the ACG?

The ACG brings together all the Analysts who join us on our Strategy, Consulting and Analytics graduate programmes and will be your home in the company from the time you join until your promotion to the next level. As part of this supportive and sociable cohort, not only will you have access to the training and development you’re looking for, but also the advice, guidance and mentoring you need to make your fledgling career a real success.

What is the TAG?

Everyone who joins our Client Delivery, Software Engineering and Technology Architecture graduate programmes becomes part of the TAG community – a group that aims to attract and grow the next generation of Business and Technology Integration experts, Software Engineers and Technical Architects. Fostering a culture of learning with a diverse range of people, roles and skills, the group offers mentoring and guidance and the opportunity to develop a variety of technology skills. You’ll also collaborate and network with peers through a range of community and social events.

Make no mistake, what we do is hard work and the challenges come thick and fast. Which is why where we work and how we work together is so important. Our culture makes daily challenges enjoyable and rewarding and is one of the reasons why Accenture is a great place to work.

Career counselling

Whether you’re a graduate or an experienced professional, regular career counselling will help you get the best out of your time at Accenture.

There’s nothing like being able to speak to someone at work who’s ‘been there and done that’. It’s a great way to turn your understanding from the theoretical into the practical and marketable.

Communication and feedback

In an organisation as big as ours, clear communication is vital. Our annual Global People Survey is a chance for you to tell us how you feel about everything from training to rewards and general job satisfaction. Plus there’s the Accenture Portal, an internal information site that has an area dedicated to employee feedback and discussion.

Flexible work

We know how important it is for our employees to strike a balance between their work and personal lives. We’re not going to pretend it won’t be hard work, but various technological innovations, combined with Accenture’s serious commitment to flexibility in the workplace, allow us to offer our people a flexible approach — giving them options as to how and where they do their work. This flexibility works both ways as employees may be placed on a project anywhere in the world.

Performance Achievement

We have recently moved away from traditional performance reviews to a new approach called Performance Achievement. This approach will enable all our employees to receive timely feedback from their managers, on an ongoing basis, throughout the year. This real-time feedback helps employees be their best as they progress their careers with us.

Shared Parental Leave

With our strong commitment to equality in the workplace, we offer a very progressive SPL policy. And our commitment to working parents goes way beyond parental leave – our Working Parents Advisory Forum is an Accenture-wide group that provides support, shares practical information and shapes company policy.

Video conferencing

We are striving to reduce the amount of travel required by our employees by rolling out a variety of video-conferencing technologies that help them to connect face-to-face with remote teams in real-time. These technologies include Telepresence, a “like being there” video conference solution and RoundTable, a 360-degree visual conferencing tool.

Leaves of absence

You might decide to take advantage of a career break during your time at Accenture. Many people do. The reasons for doing so are different for everyone. But one thing they all share is our full support. Leaves of absence vary in length from as little as four weeks to as much as a year. They are unpaid, and can be taken by anyone with more than two years' service and with strong future potential. If you want to write that book, travel the world or make a difference through voluntary work, you can.

Fitness and health

From what you eat, to where you work, to how we can help you work out - we want you to stay healthy. Which is why we've introduced a number of initiatives, which include having an assessor visit you at your workstation to advise on occupational health and safety, making health screens and medicals available to you, and providing daily fresh fruit in our offices.

Wellbeing programme

We have also created a Wellbeing Programme, running health and welfare events at our offices throughout the year. These are designed to give people the chance to talk to a wide range of traditional and alternative health professionals. And for those who are feeling energetic, we provide employees with discounted health club memberships and pay a subsidy towards membership fees.

Networking groups

We’re incredibly diverse culturally, academically and geographically, and this is one of our greatest strengths as an organisation. To help you get together with like-minded people and share your experiences, we support a wide range of networking groups. These include the African & Caribbean Network, the Working Parents Network and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Network. We also run women’s mentoring programmes, celebrate International Women’s Day and have an active Accent on Gender Network.

Whichever part of the business you join, you’ll immediately be part of an Accenture ‘community’. Typically drawn from your business or skills area, this is a group of peers and mentors that can give you valuable support when you’re just starting out. It’s also a great way to have fun, meet people and feel part of the team.

We have a nice mix of clubs and societies to help you pursue your interests outside of work, and who knows, you might even discover some new ones. Here’s a taste of what’s going on right now:

Hockey Club

Running Club

Wine Tasting Society

Accenture Adventures – outdoor activities from paint-balling and wakeboarding to scuba diving and mountain biking.
