"Starting out, I knew I wanted to learn more about programming and become a developer. I consider it an ongoing exciting project. I find it rewarding to get to the root of a problem and finding a solution for it."

What I do

I’ve been with my current project since I started at Accenture as software testing trainee. Over time, I’ve progressed to test automation and later to software development. We maintain and improve a web app used for processing pensions. Currently, I mainly handle our test automation and do development work. When needed, I also support our team with testing.

A day in my life

I really enjoy having multiple roles within the project. Most mornings I don’t know what the day will bring. I confer between the development and test team leads to determine where my versatility is most beneficial. Having a more fluid role provides our whole team with additional agility.

I appreciate all the opportunities I’ve been given to learn and grow. As I started, with quite a little experience in how a software development project operates, beginning as a tester was the perfect fit for me. Since I’ve been provided with continually more technically challenging tasks, each time I felt ready for it. The environment and people are truly supportive, and I feel I can be myself and learn at my own pace. I have made it as far as I have because of my team’s support, encouragement, and faith in my capabilities.

To unwind, I play video games and watch movies and TV shows. My husband and I just recently got into VR games. He keeps juicing up our home theatre and gaming stations, which I enjoy immensely.

My advice

As new hires, we sometimes feel that we are thrown into the deep end with experienced teammates, which can lead to intimidation or even feelings of inferiority. My advice would be not to fear this time but to relish it. Your teammates are there for you and are very valuable assets full of information and ready to help you be the best you can be. Ask questions and never feel ashamed to say you don’t understand.
