What I do

I am a software tester which means I test functionality that the developers make and make sure the functionality both cover the requirements from our client, that the new feature work as intended, and that existing functionality is not affected by the new code. I also participate in the design phase making sure that requirements are testable and not ambiguous. I make sure we uphold and deliver quality in every phase.

The most exciting project I have worked on is Autosys, which is also my current project. We are now developing solutions from scratch, trying out new features and test is being prioritized. We got the opportunity to outline our own strategies for test and have a great cooperation with the client’s teat team.

A day in my life

In my project we work in scrum teams. Each team consists of developers, a scrum master, a functional expert and a dedicated tester – that is me. I plan, execute and document tests for the user stories my team is working on. My role in the team is to make sure we deliver quality. As testing is much more than just directly testing new code, I also participate with planning of System testing (testing functionality as part of a larger system) and designing testable requirements before the developers even start coding.

In my spare time I make costumes from video games and pop culture aka cosplay. This is a creative outlet and a way to help me be even more fearless in new situations at work.

My advice

My advice is simple:

As testing occurs in every phase of every project and the need for good and structured testers are always in high demand. A tester should always be curious, wondering what happens when I push this button or enter this data. It also is a good tip to look into taking the ISTQB certification, which covers a broad specter of test strategies and methods.
