Managing Director Security

"There are few things I love more than trying to get people excited about security."
In this day and age, virtually every company will get hacked at some point in time – it’s almost a given. At Accenture Security, we try to make sure that companies are aware of this reality so that they can a) identify that they are being hacked as early on in the process as possible, and b) become as resilient to attacks as they can possibly be.
I work four and a half days a week (90%), which is uncommon for a (male) Managing Director. This arrangement allows me to continue doing what I have been doing since 1998: lecturing on the topic of information security at the Erasmus University. The other four days of the week are spent explaining to clients why security is relevant and why they should be implementing security solutions in their business operations. Over this past year I have remained part of the Global Leadership team, but my focus has shifted towards clients in the financial industry and in the external relations realm, such as the World Economic Forum and the European Union.

Always follow your passion and do what you love. Ultimately, that’s the area you’ll excel in. There’s no point in carving out a route to promotion just to take on a role that forces you to do things you don’t like doing – you probably won’t succeed if you don’t love it anyway.
