Our Technology Industrial Placements have been designed specifically for budding technology specialists and we have schemes in London and Newcastle. You will apply to join one of three areas, Software Engineering, Technology Architecture or Client Delivery. It’s a 12-month programme and starts with a formal induction and a four-week training programme where you’ll study technologies including Java, Digital, Dev Ops and testing. We’ll then assign you to a project where you’ll build your skills on the job based on which programme you have applied for.
Over the course of the placement, you’ll gain exposure to many different assignments from development to deployment. By the end of the year, you should come away with some valuable experience – and hopefully an offer to join us when you graduate.
This placement is undertaken in the third year of a four-year course and you will need to apply in your second year. You’ll probably be studying towards a degree in a subject such as computer science or another technology-focused discipline, although we also welcome applications from students with maths/science/engineering related bachelor degrees. You’ll have a real passion for technology and how it can be used.

This placement is based in either Newcastle or London. Please note that you will need to find and fund your own accommodation. However, if we send you on a project further afield, we will cover the additional accommodation costs on your behalf.
Lasting twelve months, the programme combines formal training with practical, hands-on experience in live development environments. After a few days spent on a formal induction, you’ll embark on a four-week training programme. You’ll study technologies including Java, .NET, IBM Rational Toolset and SAP (ABAP). Then we’ll assign you to a project where you’ll build your skills on the job.
Over the course of the placement, you’ll gain exposure to many different assignments from development to deployment. You’ll build your skills in testing and technologies such as SAP, Oracle, Java/J2EE, C#, BEA Weblogic and more.

“Right now, I'm a Java specialist aligned to Capital Markets. Most of the time, I design and code software for investment banks and stock exchanges. In previous roles, I've also been involved in technical testing. This means testing new programmes to make sure they run fast enough, or restart correctly after crashing, and suggesting fixes when they don't.
I'm based at my client's offices and usually get in around nine. First thing I do is check my emails and meetings: I always have something scheduled through the day. It could be meeting with the client to talk about our contract, or reviews with my team to critique the design of new programmes and find problems before the code is written. As well as handling project work I organise employee development, so there could also be a conference call to discuss the Java training we're offering.
I plan the rest of my work - writing code, running it, testing it and documenting the programme - around my meetings. At the moment I'm on a stand-alone section of work so I do everything myself. When it comes to bigger pieces, you work on project teams with as many as 40 developers. On these large projects, we have to be a lot more structured about who is writing what pieces of functionality so there's a lot of communication.
If you are looking for an easy nine-to-five role, Accenture is probably not the place for you. If you want to work with driven people on large and complicated projects, where you are constantly challenged and pushed to be the best that you can be, then Accenture is a great place to work. The reason I'm still here is because of variety on offer. When I feel I'm not learning as much as I could from a role, I work with my manager to move to a new project or client. Then everything becomes new and interesting again. This way, I never feel like I'm stagnating. Plus, being at Accenture means that I get to work on some really large and important projects. I don't think there is a person in the UK that is not impacted by a system that I've worked on in my time here.”
“My first role at Accenture was as a placement student. I chose the company because they offered an opportunity for me to get involved with emerging technologies and put into practice my skills gained from the course up to that point. While here, I worked on a project for a large government department within the development architecture space – the team that builds and supports the project architecture. My main focus was on the Middleware components of the architecture stack and I became skilled with various technologies such as UNIX, IBM Rational Tools, IBM SOA Products, Business Objects, and Adapters for Legacy systems.
I returned to Accenture after graduating and was asked rejoin the project by senior management. Now I'm working with a variety of new tools and applications such as Oracle WebLogic, Siebel and Informatica. I have gained quite a lot of responsibility quickly and I'm currently in Mumbai (India) providing knowledge-transfer to the rest of my team.
For me, a day in the office means encountering new and interesting challenges. This ranges from implementing a new technology across the architecture to upgrading an existing application. I really enjoy the diverse nature of my role. Especially because, if I'm up against something I've not faced before, I can tap into the knowledge that people around me have. The expertise in Accenture is incredible; I feel really lucky to work and learn from such intelligent people.”
APPLICATION AND ONLINE TEST
You will need to fill out an application form. You’ll be asked a series of free text questions and will also need to upload your CV. You will be asked to demonstrate your understanding of Accenture and how we use technology to help our clients to evolve their businesses. A good tip is to reference some of our existing case studies. The online assessment can be completed at a time and location convenient to you. The interview will involve video questions, aptitude questions, a debug challenge and a coding challenge. We are not expecting candidates to be able to complete all tasks correctly, but we include a variety of questions to identify your skills and potential, so give it your best shot. Should you be invited to complete the digital interview you will sent full details on what to expect and how to prepare prior to your interview.
The final stage of the recruitment process is a half-day assessment centre in our London or Newcastle office (depending on the location you apply to). There will be some assessed sessions, a group exercise and a one-to-one interview with a recruiter. There will also be some more informal unassessed sessions to give you a chance to get to know Accenture including a tour of our Innovation Hub. A manager will present a session about their own career at Accenture. This is a good opportunity to find out more about life at Accenture and ask any questions you might have regarding training, projects and career opportunities. There will also be the opportunity to ask recruiters questions during the session. Assessed tasks include a group exercise where you will be working in a team to identify the best technology solution for a client and an interview with a recruiter. The final part of the Assessment Centre is a 1.1 interview with a technology manager where you will have an opportunity to demonstrate your aptitude, skills and potential for the role.
