Job Description

Most software developers, engineers, and architects get to build software systems. Very few get to say with a straight face: “I’m reinventing banking.” or retail, or logistics, or insurance. We’re combining cloud native technologies, industry expertise, and entrepreneurial experience to massively disrupt our clients’ core businesses. We partner with our clients to propel them into the future and to help create better products and experiences for everyone.

We’re doing this by leveraging the power of new patterns and cloud-native technologies to build solutions for the enterprise. Most of our work fits what we call Digital Decoupling, where we design and build a state-of-the art system to wrap legacy, isolate legacy components, build new functionality, and slowly and methodically hollow out the existing core.

Our team is deeply hands-on, highly technical, and prides itself in being battle hardened, lead-from-the-front technology thought leaders. Although we excel in the new and cloud-native, we also work end-to-end across a myriad of different technologies. Ideally, you are familiar or have experience with the kind of technologies that we also need to face on a daily basis such as on-premises technologies, legacy Java, old fashioned ESBS and integration platforms, SAP and even Cobol and mainframe.

If you want to largely draw diagrams and pontificate on adding yet another layer to an already bloated monolith, this probably isn’t the role for you. Our competitors are hiring for that kind of thing.

If, however, you’re interested in solving some of the hardest problems in enterprise technology and transforming and disrupting established industries, let’s talk.

KEYWORDS – all levels

  • Cloud native and containers – Docker, Kubernetes, Helm
  • DevOps – Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery git, GitHub, Jenkins
  • Programming languages – Java, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript
  • Cloud – Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure
  • Architecture and patterns – pub-sub, event-driven, CRQS, event sourcing, streaming and real-time data processing, microservices
  • Technologies – Kafka, Solace, REST APIs, JSON

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math preferred).
  • Strong in critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with complex scenarios, end-to-end thinking while being able to dive into details in specific areas when and where needed
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills. You will be expected to communicate business value for all technical solutions all the way to the C-Suite in some cases
  • Curiosity and a desire to continuously learn
  • Initiative-taking is required. You will likely be given an objective, some constraints, and enough detail to get started. After that, we will expect you to solve problems without hand holding
  • 3 years or more of verified hands-on experience building interesting and innovative applications, or equivalent open-source contribution (several projects as ongoing contributor)
  • Experience explaining complex technical concepts to an executive audience. If you can explain event to a layperson, you’ve got this
  • 1–3 years of verified experience designing and building software systems. i.e planning out infrastructure, cloud platform components, network details etc.
  • Experience working in or leading an agile team, or experience leading a product team with several agile teams working toward a common goal
  • Experience designing and leading engineering systems and DevOps, i.e managing the process of building software
  • Deep knowledge of one or more industry areas e.g. hospitality, banking, or retail

Preferred Qualifications (General)

Below are ‘nice to haves’, and if you don’t have more than one or two, don’t be discouraged. We are a team with a very diverse set of skills and backgrounds, and a big part of that means different skills.

  • Experience with one or more programming language such as: JVM languages (Java, Kotlin, Groovy) or Node.js
  • Hands on experience with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure; namely choosing platform components and assembling application and runtime architecture
  • Experience with microservices architectures and constituent technologies
  • Experience with containerization and container platforms
  • Experience with Event Driven Architectures and constituent technologies
  • Experience with traditional data stores as well as NoSQL
  • Familiarity (or certification) with Enterprise Architecture tools and frameworks, such as TOGAF
