Healthcare Technology Consulting,
Senior Manager

"Healthcare technology is going through unprecedented change. By driving their journeys to cloud, I’m helping health payers to embrace it."

What I Do

As a senior manager, I’m seen as one of our go-to cloud experts in Healthcare. My role is to help clients—mainly health payers—get scale in the cloud, taking advantage of innovations such as AI and big data. I’m responsible for defining and implementing strategic transformations to their core technology, as well as managing teams through the delivery of the solution.

My 12 years at Accenture has been spent exclusively in Healthcare, beginning as an analyst and working across several Accenture businesses. If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s the importance of listening to the ideas and perspectives of people at different levels. The way to becoming innovative is to do things differently.

A day in my life

What gets me up in the morning? There’s the buzz of constantly learning about new technologies. I get to tackle problems that have previously been considered unsolvable. And then there’s the opportunity to improve millions of lives. Everyone is a patient, and helping clients reduce costs and pass on the savings to patients is incredibly satisfying.

Aside from projects, I’m involved in the hiring and orientation of entry-level analysts. I also champion inclusion, diversity and female empowerment at Accenture, and established an informal mentorship program for women. I’m proud to be among other female professionals in our Healthcare technology practice, but we definitely need more women in technology consulting and female leaders who other women can identify with.

Away from work, I love to travel and try to fit in at least one long trip a year between projects. I recently spent five weeks in Africa exploring South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
That’s not to say I don’t enjoy what’s here on my doorstep in Austin. My favorite local spot is a blues bar, which is rated one of the top music venues in the U.S. And there are plenty of great places where you can catch up with friends on the weekends for some good food and wine.

My advice

When I meet new recruits, I always tell them that they will never stop learning at Accenture. So it’s important to be a self-starter. Don’t wait to be sent on a training course. Be intellectually curious in exploring new technology to stay ahead of the game.

But the best advice I can give is to stand up for yourself. Don’t be afraid to say if your priorities have changed. If you’re working 60 or 70 hours a week, or if excessive travelling is getting you down, don’t just think it comes with the territory in consulting. Things might not change immediately and you likely won’t “get it all,”, but knowing what is important to you and opening the lines of communication is the only way to change anything.
