Taking climate action
Climate change is increasingly affecting living and working conditions around the world, making this the decade to deliver on meaningful climate action.
As a professional services company, the most significant aspects of our environmental footprint are the greenhouse gas emissions related to travel and electricity used in our locations.
Together with our broad ecosystem of clients and partners, we are driving sustainable innovation and adoption of new standards that transcend market divides. Through partnerships, practice, research and innovation, we are working to increase awareness of sustainability solutions to grow understanding of the issues and change our business to address the climate crisis.
Reducing our footprint
We believe in leading by example and reducing our footprint where we work. We do this through our forward-looking climate action goals.
Going 100% renewable by 2023
In 2019, we committed to procuring 100% renewable energy across our global facilities by 2023. So far, we are at 26%.
Working toward our science-based target
We have committed to reduce our scope 1 and 2 emissions 65% by 2025 from our 2016 baseline. To date, we have cut these emissions by more than 19%.
Driving toward the low-carbon economy
The global climate crisis demands businesses move away from a “take, make, waste” system and instead implement the circular economy, where waste is eliminated, and resources are continually re-used.
Practical steps for businesses
Our sustainability experts wrote The Circular Economy Handbook to demonstrate the business path to sustainability. The book includes practical steps businesses can take toward circularity. Read more.
Bringing sports and sustainability together
Culminating with Super Bowl LIV, Accenture worked with Nexus and Ocean Global to develop Single-Use Plastic Reduction (SUPR), a program aimed at catalyzing sports teams to go plastic free.
Engaging our people
At Accenture, we challenge one another to be leaders in sustainability, making climate-smart choices at work, at home and in our communities.
Taking the Travel Smart Challenge
Our Travel Smart Challenge is an annual competition to minimize air and road travel. Since fiscal 2012, Accenture has avoided more than 72,000 flights and almost 6 million ground transportation miles.
Driving awareness of vital ecosystems
Accenture Labs’ Sanjay Podder and the Bombay Natural History Society developed the Internet of Birds web portal to fight climate change, which is impacting India’s birds.
Our environmental journey
Since beginning our environmental journey in 2007, we have saved more than 1.94 million megawatt hours of electricity, more than 1 million metric tons of CO2 and generated more than US$258 million in energy savings.
Reducing our environmental impact is built into our Code of Business Ethics (COBE) and our core values, specifically Stewardship. These inform our Environmental Responsibility Policy, which our Environment Steering Group established in 2007 and has reviewed annually.VIEW OUR HISTORICAL PROGRESS
