Data Science Lead
About the Role
We are seeking a Manager with deep Data Science expertise to join our Strategy & Consulting practice. This is a unique opportunity to combine technical leadership with strategic impact- helping organisations across industries harness data, AI, and analytics to transform how they operate and grow.
You will shape data-driven strategies, lead complex client engagements, and work closely with senior stakeholders to deliver measurable outcomes. While experience working with mining clients is highly valued, your skills will also extend across other industries, ensuring a broad and diverse portfolio of work.
What You’ll Do
Partner with C-suite and senior stakeholders to define how data and AI can address critical business challenges and unlock new opportunities.
Lead end-to-end delivery of consulting projects, from solution design and planning to execution and value realisation.
Contribute to pre-sales activities, including proposals, client workshops, and solutioning deals.
Apply advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI to design innovative, scalable solutions that drive business impact.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across strategy, technology, and industry to deliver integrated transformation outcomes.
Mentor and lead teams of consultants and data scientists, building capability and fostering a culture of excellence.
Bring strong commercial acumen-ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with tangible client value.
What You’ll Bring
- 12+ years of professional experience, with at least 6–8 years applying data science and analytics in complex, business-facing environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in machine learning, predictive modelling, optimisation, and advanced analytics, with strong proficiency in tools such as Python, R, SQL, Spark, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Proven consulting experience, with the ability to frame business problems, design solutions, and communicate insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Industry exposure to mining clients (or similar asset-heavy industries) and an understanding of the opportunities for digital and data-driven transformation.
- A track record of contributing to business development, including pre-sales, solutioning, and client proposals.
- Strong commercial and delivery acumen-able to scope, lead, and execute engagements successfully.
- Leadership and people management skills, with experience guiding diverse teams and developing talent.
- Tertiary qualifications in Data Science, Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications (MBA, Masters) are highly regarded.
