Infrastructure & Capital Projects – Safety Manager – Higher Education, ANS
THE WORK:
- You’ll oversee construction activities on behalf of the client across multiple project sites.
- You’ll monitor contractor compliance with safety regulations and contract requirements.
- You’ll ensure adherence to OSHA standards relevant to each project.
- You’ll conduct daily safety reviews aligned with current regulations and SOPs.
- You’ll track compliance with Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) requirements.
- You’ll support the Program Safety Manager with meetings, reports, and safety analysis.
- You’ll attend construction meetings and lead safety discussions (toolbox talks).
- You’ll report site observations and review upcoming work for hazard preparedness.
- You’ll perform ongoing site safety inspections and generate daily safety reports.
- You’ll submit weekly Health, Safety, and Environmental Observation Reports.
- You’ll review contractor safety documentation for accuracy and completeness (e.g., JHAs, plans).
- You’ll assess incident reports, join safety stand-downs, and share lessons learned.
- You’ll conduct safety orientations, enforce compliance policies, and travel between multiple job sites as needed.
- Onsite at client site: The work location for this role is onsite with our clients and partners to enable delivery and cultivate our client relationships.
$118,000 - $130,000 a year
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- 10 years' of commercial construction experience in the US with a General Contractor
- 5 years' experience in California with a Contractor or major subcontractor
- 2 years' experience in construction of educational projects in a campus environment
- Strong experience managing field construction teams on multiple projects
Experience on demolition, renovation, and new construction building projects - Experience working on OCIP programs.
- All certificates and credentials must be active and current for consideration
- Hold a valid Safety Management Specialist (SMS) certificate or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) issued by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) or Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC) certificate issued by the National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP)
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Experience on modernization/renovation projects involving abatement, remediation of hazardous materials, hazardous material waste removal and handling, such as asbestos and lead based paint.
- Strong experience working with senior management and field teams on large building programs across multiple sites and locations
- Experience participating in scheduled construction Meetings with Contractors and Project Managers
- Strong experience in safety incident reporting and daily construction reporting for multiple projects
- Ability to effectively communicate with Owner's Construction Management staff and Contractor's Site Management Team
- Ability to manage, control, and report safety incidents in a timely manner in accordance with OSHA regulations and Owner's Requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and other basic software programs used in Construction
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE:
- Construction management, safety management, safety engineer or related degree is preferred
- Additional safety/health certifications and credentials as appropriate for this position
- Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER
- Current OSHA 500 (Trainer in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry)
