About the role

We are seeking a Workday HCM Functional Consultant with hands-on experience in Workday Talent Management, Performance Management and Learning Modules. You will work with clients and delivery teams to translate business requirements into practical Workday solutions, configure the platform, support testing and deployment, and help clients improve employee development, performance and learning experiences.

This role suits a functional specialist who can independently own assigned workstreams and deliverables, facilitate client discussions, solve configuration issues and contribute to high-quality project outcomes under the guidance of senior delivery leads.

What you will do

  • Drive and support functional workstreams for Workday Talent Management, Performance Management and Learning implementations, enhancements and optimisation initiatives.
  • Run discovery workshops and stakeholder interviews to understand current processes, pain points, business requirements and future-state objectives.
  • Translate requirements into Workday functional designs, configuration workbooks, user stories, process flows and solution decisions.
  • Configure Workday Talent and Performance functionality, including talent profiles, competencies and skills, goals, performance review processes, calibration, succession-related processes and development planning, as applicable to the client solution.
  • Configure Workday Learning functionality, including learning content, courses, programs, campaigns, enrolment rules, audiences, prerequisites, assessments and learning assignments.
  • Configure and maintain relevant business processes, condition rules, notifications, security considerations and tenant setup within the assigned functional scope.
  • Partner with Core HCM, Recruiting, Compensation, Reporting, Security, Integrations and Data teams to deliver an integrated end-to-end solution.
  • Prepare and execute unit and system testing, support end-to-end and regression testing, manage defects, and assist business users through user acceptance testing.
  • Support data preparation and validation for talent, performance and learning data, working with data and integration specialists where required.
  • Develop functional documentation, configuration records, test scripts, training materials and knowledge-transfer content.
  • Support deployment readiness, cutover, production validation, hypercare and transition to ongoing support.
  • Analyse functional issues, identify root causes and recommend sustainable solutions that align with Workday leading practices and client requirements.
  • Build trusted client relationships, communicate risks and dependencies clearly, and contribute to status reporting and workstream governance.
  • Contribute to reusable assets, practice knowledge, team capability and continuous improvement across the Workday practice.

Experience and qualifications

  • Hands-on functional experience configuring and supporting Workday HCM, with demonstrated depth in Talent Management, Performance Management and/or Workday Learning.
  • Experience across at least one full Workday implementation lifecycle or a substantial Workday optimisation, deployment or support program.
  • Practical understanding of Workday business processes, condition rules, security concepts, reporting dependencies and tenant configuration.
  • Ability to facilitate requirements and design workshops and convert business needs into clear, testable functional solutions.
  • Experience preparing functional design documents, configuration workbooks, test scenarios, defect analysis and user guidance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder-management skills, with attention to detail and delivery quality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functional and technical teams in a structured project environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain Workday concepts to both business and technical stakeholders.

Preferred experience

  • Workday certification in Talent, Performance and/or Learning, or current equivalent Workday accreditation.
  • Broader Workday Core HCM experience and familiarity with Recruiting, Compensation, Skills Cloud, Career Hub, reporting or people analytics.
  • Experience with Workday releases, feature adoption, tenant optimisation or post-production support.
  • Experience delivering HR technology solutions in complex, regulated or Australian Government environments.
  • Consulting experience, including management of client expectations, risks, issues, actions and project deliverables.
