DevOps System Administrator

 

  • Location: Canberra (preferred), or Brisbane.

  • Employment Type: Full-time/Permanent

  • Support a diverse portfolio of applications in a large-scale enterprise technology environment hosted in AWS Cloud

  • Work across cloud infrastructure, automation, and system administration

  • Security Requirement: Due to the secure nature of this role, we are seeking candidates who are Australian Citizens or individuals with active security clearance (Baseline/NV1).

 

About the Role

This is a DevOps System Administration role within a Business-as-Usual (BAU) Operations Team that supports a wide range of applications across a complex and evolving technology landscape. The role is ideal for professionals with strong experience in AWS Cloud across ECS, EC2, and RDS, who can contribute to the reliability, scalability, and performance of enterprise systems.

You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to manage infrastructure, automate processes, and troubleshoot issues. Additional skills in networking, DevOps practices, and PowerShell scripting are highly valued and will enhance your ability to drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain Windows Server environments

  • Manage AWS cloud infrastructure including RDS, ECS Fargate, and EC2

  • Automate tasks and deployments using PowerShell and Python

  • Support containerised workloads using Docker

  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to resolve infrastructure and application issues

  • Monitor system health and implement alerting and logging solutions

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipeline integration and infrastructure as code practices

  • Maintain documentation and runbooks for operational efficiency

Required Experience

  • Strong experience with AWS cloud services:

    • Networking (DNS, VPC, Network Tracing and Protocols, Proxy Configuration, Firewalls, public and private networks.)

    • ECS Fargate (container orchestration, scaling, service management)

    • EC2 (provisioning, monitoring, optimisation)

  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell and Python

  • Experience working with JSON/YAML for configuration management and deployment pipelines

  • Hands-on experience with Docker containers (build, deployment, registry, troubleshooting)

  • Familiarity with Linux systems administration and shell scripting (advantageous)

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automation practices

  • Experience in Agile Scrum environments, contributing to sprint planning and ceremonies

  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform)

  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

  • Ability to document processes and collaborate across teams

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field

  • Relevant certifications in AWS, Microsoft, or DevOps methodologies
