Infrastructure & Capital Projects – Assistant Structures Representative- Assistant Bridge Engineer – Transportation LA, ANS
THE WORK:
- You’ll be a representative for the client supervising the structures portion of the project, committed to making certain that the project progresses safely and efficiently.
- You’ll verify via inspection and documentation on the contract relating to roadway & highway structures for general conformance to the Caltrans Standards, Specifications, Construction Manual, the Local Assistance Procedures manual and/or any Caltrans Bridge-related guidelines.
- You’ll use your engineering judgment to evaluate project structures construction in compliance with the plans, specifications, standard plans, and standard specifications with an emphasis on the structures portion of the project work under the supervision of the assigned Project Manager or Resident Engineer or Structure Representative.
- You’ll work directly with and, generally, report directly to the Resident Engineer and/or Structure Representative, providing technical expertise required to properly administer the structural portion of the roadway work.
- You’ll read and interpret project plans, shop drawings, specifications, permits, and other pertinent contract documents such as Falsework or shoring systems.
- You’ll generate and/or review contract change orders and requests for information relating to structure items.
- You’ll review submittals from the contractor relating to structure items and verify documentation on the contract relating to structures is generated and filed in proper order.
- You’ll coordinate and/or perform quality testing of the structure work.
- You will function and operate in a team environment.
- Onsite at client site: The work location for this role is onsite with our clients and partners to enable delivery and cultivate our client relationships. This role will be a mix of day and night shifts.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Bachelors degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering
- EIT is required
- Minimum 5 (five) years of experience in roadway or highway inspection inclusive of bridge structures, retaining walls, sound walls, drainage systems, and all temporary support systems like Bridge Falsework or Shoring Systems.
- Minimum 2 (two) years of the 5 years mentioned above as lead worker in Structure construction and inspection
- Minimum 2 (two) years of experience in CALTRANS roadway/bridge construction projects and standard construction methodology.
- Minimum 3 (three) years of experience with CALTRANS practices and procedures & Construction Manuals
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE:
- PE Registration in the State of California
- CMIT, ACI, NICET, APWA certifications
- Ability to direct and supervise field construction activities and staff, office engineering, inspection, materials testing, field contract administration, and to act as liaison with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, design professionals and regulatory agencies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the pertinent contract documents and references specific to the project.
- Ability to understand, interpret and make sound engineering determinations regarding the contract documents relating to structure work.
- Proven resolution and or facilitation of discrepancies or problems with the contract documents relating to structures and issues arising from structure field operations
- Experience with analysis of Falsework, Shoring System, and all temporary works.
