Technology Strategy & Transformation Practice is a part of Accenture Strategy and focuses on our clients’ most strategic priorities. We help clients achieve growth and efficiency through innovative transformation initiatives, aimed at redefining business models and delivery approaches using agile methodologies.

Modernization Strategy & Value Agenda: Help clients define the strategic intent for modernization, aligning with core business objectives of growth, agility, resilience, cost and simplification to a clear modernization ambition and measurable value outcomes Technology Estate & Application Portfolio Assessment: Assess complex technology landscapes across applications, platforms, integrations, data, AI, engineering and legacy applications, including non-mainframe legacy estates, to identify technical debt, business risk, modernization opportunities and portfolio-level priorities Target Architecture & Modernization Pathways: Shape target-state modern architecture, reference technology stacks and modernization pathways across enterprise platforms, applications and legacy estates, helping clients make informed choices across regarding remediation Modernization Roadmap, Business Case & Decision Governance: Translate modernization ambition and strategy into sequenced roadmaps, investment cases, decision frameworks and governance mechanisms that help clients prioritize initiatives, manage trade-offs and realize measurable business value
Role Overview
We are looking for a Technology Modernization Strategy & Architecture leader with deep expertise in enterprise technology modernization, application modernization and modernization-led architecture strategy across all layers of IT landscape including architecture, application, data, AI, cloud, engineering and IT operations.
The role requires a senior consulting practitioner who can engage confidently with CxO and business leadership, shape the modernization value agenda, assess complex technology and application estates, drive target architecture and modernization pathway discussions, and translate business ambition into executable transformation roadmaps and value cases.
The successful candidate will be expected to evaluate complex technology estates, define modern target state, structure initiatives needed to achieve the target state, identify modernization pathways and guide clients through practical, sequenced transformation choices.
The role requires strong executive presence, structured problem solving, deep modernization expertise across IT landscape and the ability to guide senior clients through practical trade-offs across business value, technology debt, cost, risk, resilience, scalability and long-term architecture fit.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Modernization Strategy and Roadmap
- Lead enterprise-wide technology modernization strategy engagements across complex technology landscapes
- Define modernization ambition, strategic intent and business-aligned technology modernization priorities
- Assess current-state technology estates across applications, platforms, architecture, integration, data, infrastructure and vendor ecosystems
- Identify modernization opportunities, technical debt, architecture constraints, platform gaps, business risks and value pools
- Shape target-state architecture and reference technology stack aligned to business priorities and enterprise architecture direction
- Define modernization guiding principles, decision & prioritization frameworks to support consistent technology choices
- Advice on vendor, platform and ecosystem strategy, including fitment of cloud platforms, enterprise platforms, integration platforms and modernization partners
- Build multi-year modernization roadmaps sequenced by business value, technical dependencies, cost, risk, complexity and readiness
- Develop modernization value cases linking technology investments to measurable outcomes such as agility, resilience, scalability, cost efficiency, reduced technology debt and speed-to-market
Application Modernization Strategy, Architecture & Planning
- Lead application estate assessments covering business criticality, technical health, architecture fit, complexity, dependencies, cost, resilience, scalability and modernization potential
- Assess aging and legacy application estates, including non-mainframe legacy applications, to identify technical debt, business risk, modernization constraints and transition priorities
- Define application modernization pathways for target applications
- Conduct application decomposition and domain analysis to identify modernization boundaries, dependency clusters, migration waves and sequencing options
- Shape target application architecture and transition architecture across applications, platforms, integration and data dependencies
- Define phased modernization approaches, coexistence models, migration plans and dependency management approaches that protect business continuity
- Advice on modernization patterns such as modular architecture, API-led integration, microservices, event-driven architecture, cloud-native enablement, strangler pattern and platform-based modernization
- Support data liberation and migration considerations required to reduce dependency on aging systems and enable future-ready application architecture
- Develop app modernization roadmaps and value cases aligned to enterprise modernization strategy, architecture direction and business priorities
Executive advisory and Growth
- Lead CxO-level conversations on technology modernization priorities, application modernization choices, architecture implications, investment trade-offs and enterprise transformation decisions
- Serve as a trusted advisor to CIO, CTO, enterprise architecture and business leadership teams on modernization strategy, sequencing choices and strategic technology decisions
- Translate complex modernization and architecture topics into clear executive recommendations, decision options and leadership-ready points of view
- Support strategic pursuits, client account development and growth initiatives through differentiated modernization propositions and executive-ready solution narratives
- Shape client opportunities by bringing together various capabilities of Accenture to provide a holistic solution to client
- Develop thought leadership, market perspectives, offering assets and reusable modernization frameworks
- Lead and mentor teams across discovery, modernization assessment, strategy development, roadmap creation and senior stakeholder engagement
Core Skillsets & Tools
Technology Modernization Advisory
- Strong understanding of how enterprise technology modernization enables business growth, agility, resilience, cost optimization, speed-to-market and technology simplification
- Ability to assess complex technology estates across applications, platforms, integrations, data dependencies, AI, engineering, infrastructure touchpoints, cloud footprint, vendor ecosystem and technology debt
- Strong capability in legacy application modernization, technology debt assessment, modernization prioritization and investment sequencing across large enterprise landscapes
- Experience in developing modernization value cases that connect technology investments to measurable outcomes such as run-cost reduction, risk reduction, improved resilience, faster change velocity and business capability enablement
- Familiarity operating model implications of modernization, including product-centric delivery, platform operating models, engineering maturity, governance and change readiness
- Ability to define data, platform and architecture enablers required to scale AI responsibly across the enterprise value chain
Application Architecture, Engineering and AI
- Strong understanding of application architecture, integration architecture, data & AI architecture, cloud architecture and transition architecture in modernization contexts
- Deep understanding of modern application architecture patterns such as domain-driven design, modular architecture, microservices, event-driven architecture, API-led integration, cloud-native application design and strangler-based modernization
- Strong understanding of application modernization pathways including trade-offs across value, cost, risk, feasibility and business continuity
- Experience with aging application estates, including non-mainframe legacy applications, custom applications, packaged applications, end-of-life technologies and fragmented platform landscapes
- Practical understanding of modern engineering practices such as AI driven SDLC, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, infrastructure-as-code, containerization, Kubernetes and platform engineering
- Strong understanding of frameworks and methods such as TOGAF, COBIT, IT4IT, business capability modelling, modernization maturity assessment and technology value assessment
- Good understanding of cloud, data and AI architecture concepts, including Azure/AWS/GCP, data lake, data fabric, real-time data processing, semantic models, AI/ML integration, GenAI enablement and AI-ready application architecture
- Familiarity with platform ecosystems across SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, ServiceNow, hyperscalers, integration platforms, data platforms, observability tools and engineering toolchains
Consulting and Communication Skills
- Strong consulting toolkit spanning structured problem solving, assessment design, facilitation, business case development and executive storytelling
- Ability to engage senior stakeholders with credibility and clarity, influence client leadership and create alignment across business and technology teams
- Experience in independently leading client discussions, develop thought leadership, create compelling modernization narratives and shape opportunities

- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is a plus
- 15+ years of experience in technology consulting, technology strategy, application modernization, architecture-led transformation, cloud modernization or large-scale technology transformation advisory
- Experience working with CIO, CTO, enterprise architecture, application, platform, cloud, data and business leadership teams to shape modernization strategies and transformation priorities
- Hands on experience in defining and driving minimum 2 technology modernization engagement for a client with large IT landscape with expertise in defining portfolio prioritization according to minimal business continuity risk
- Hands-on experience in defining modern application architecture patterns and practices
- Experience with aging and legacy application estates, including non-mainframe legacy applications, custom applications, packaged applications, end-of-life technologies and fragmented platform landscapes
- Strong understanding of modernization pathways including the ability to evaluate trade-offs across value, cost, risk, feasibility and business continuity
- Experience shaping target-state and transition architecture across application, integration, data, cloud and platform layers
- Exposure to modern engineering, cloud, data and AI-enabled modernization concepts, including DevSecOps, CI/CD, platform engineering, cloud-native architecture, data modernization, GenAI enablement and AI-ready application architecture
- Experience creating executive-ready deliverables such as modernization strategy documents, application portfolio heatmaps, architecture options, roadmap views, business cases, investment options and CxO-level presentations
- Experience leading consulting teams, including structuring workplans, guiding analysis, reviewing deliverables, facilitating workshops and managing senior stakeholder discussions
- Experience supporting proposal development, solution shaping, strategic pursuits, thought leadership or practice-building activities in technology modernization or adjacent transformation areas.
- Understanding of at least one of the industries across Financial Services, Retail, Consumer Goods, Life Sciences, Telecommunications, Resources, Industrial, Automotive, Travel or similar sectors is preferred
- Strong facilitation capability with experience in workshops, design thinking sessions, leadership discussions and architecture governance forums
