About the Role
We are looking for an Interaction Designer to join our multidisciplinary team at The Dock.
In this role, you will help design intuitive, engaging and accessible digital products and services, translating complex business and user needs into meaningful experiences.
You will contribute to projects from early-stage research and concept development through to prototyping, detailed interface design and implementation.
Working closely with other designers, software engineers, data scientists and business stakeholders, you will help create innovative solutions that combine human-centred design with emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities
Interaction and Product Design
- Design intuitive and engaging digital experiences across different platforms, devices and touchpoints.
- Translate user needs, business requirements and technical considerations into clear design concepts and solutions.
- Create sketches, user flows, wireframes, information architectures, high-fidelity UI designs and interactive prototypes.
- Support the end-to-end design process, from initial discovery and concept development through to detailed design and implementation.
- Apply interaction design, service design and human-centred design principles to create accessible and effective user experiences.
Research and Prototyping
- Support user research activities to better understand user behaviours, needs and challenges.
- Analyse and synthesise research findings to identify insights and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and test prototypes to validate ideas, gather feedback and refine design solutions.
- Explore new interaction patterns and design approaches using emerging technologies, including Generative AI, conversational interfaces, voice and mixed reality.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, data scientists, strategists and subject-matter experts throughout the design and development process.
- Clearly communicate design concepts and decisions through presentations, prototypes and visual storytelling.
- Explain and justify design decisions using user insights, business objectives and technical considerations.
- Participate in design reviews, contribute constructive feedback and incorporate feedback into your work.
- Work within multidisciplinary, agile project teams to support the delivery of high-quality digital products and services.
Innovation and Design Community
- Contribute to a culture of experimentation, collaboration and continuous learning.
- Explore how emerging technologies can be applied responsibly to improve user experiences.
- Support project planning and delivery activities alongside the wider team.
- Represent The Dock's design community through workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions, events and conferences.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- A qualification in Interaction Design, Product Design, UX/UI Design or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong interaction design, UI/UX design and an understanding of service design principles.
- Practical experience using Figma to create wireframes, interface designs and interactive prototypes.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and familiarity with emerging Generative AI design tools.
- A solid understanding of human-centred design, interaction design, user experience principles and rapid prototyping.
- Experience contributing to the design of digital products, services or user experiences.
- Strong visual communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain design decisions clearly to different audiences.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including designers, developers, technical specialists and business stakeholders.
- A user-focused and client-oriented approach, with an understanding of how design can deliver meaningful business value.
- Ability to receive, provide and incorporate constructive feedback throughout the design process.
Desirable Experience and Skills
- Experience working in agile product development teams, from early-stage concepts through to implementation.
- Experience conducting or supporting user research, usability testing and the synthesis of research findings.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design best practices.
- Experience experimenting with emerging technologies such as Generative AI, conversational AI, voice interfaces or mixed reality.
- Ability to develop and communicate conceptual models at both user experience and systems levels.
- Understanding of related design disciplines, including Visual Design, Content Design, Service Design and Business Design.
- Ability to connect user needs and design solutions with broader business objectives and measurable value.
- Interest in innovation, emerging technologies and exploring new approaches to digital interaction.
Portfolio Requirement
Important: Applications must include a portfolio demonstrating relevant interaction design, UI/UX or digital product design work. Applications submitted without a portfolio will not be considered.
