How I put change in motion

Before becoming a mature analyst, I experienced three phases.  I will consider the period being fresh grad as the first one which I have lots of passion but don't really have much technical skills. I acquired the basic technical and business analysis skills during my first job as a developer. 

I started my second phase by joining Accenture. Although I already have the skillsets being utilized in a project, I am impressed being involved in the whole flow of developing an application. Not only do I get chances to further develop my technical skills, but I have exposures on different specific parts at one time which could train me to be a cross-function expert in the future.  In addition to communicate and cocreate with diverse colleagues from various teams, I also took reference by mirroring senior colleagues and meeting many hands-on buddies. 

Collaborating and innovating with cross-industry clients, solving real-world problems, further expanding my horizon and leveraging my experience and knowledge to support fresh analysts – that’s what I do currently as the team lead. Every time I finish a project, I feel a sense of success because what I learned through it has made me a better self with confidence to conquer coming challenges.

A day in my life

I usually wake up early to run, starting my day by checking emails and connecting with colleagues for follow up questions. Taking today as an example, I have communicated with the offshore team and commented on the coding review submitted by my teammate with DevOps tools.  

After that, there will be meetings with different teams, groupmates and/or clients for updates and plannings. Then I will grab a coffee, turn on the music and start my coding. For me, software engineering is like making a sophisticated machine. In the process, some tasks could be accomplished by myself, but if I want to make it better, it is vital to cooperate with and learn from others. I used to work in office before WFH arrangement and usually have chill time with teammates at that time.

  • Possessing a proactive attitude is important for fresh graduates - as it motivates you to be a better self and helps you to make more achievements in future career. 
  • Seeking for help from your people advisor, project manager and teammates. You are not alone.
  • Trying to build networks with colleagues – you can learn from them and enjoy your time working with buddies. 
  • Don't be afraid to fail, as you can always learn from the failure.
