What would you do? To technically assess Low Voltage distributed generation (LV DG) applications by conducting a detailed review of submitted electrical designs, protection arrangements, and supporting documentation, ensuring full compliance with ENA G99 requirements prior to approval for connection. Reviewing single-line diagrams, schematics, and electrical layouts to confirm correct connection arrangements, earthing configuration, and interface with the distribution network. Assessing protection schemes (including inverter protection, interface protection, loss-of-mains protection, and settings) to ensure alignment with G99 technical requirements and industry best practice. Validating equipment certification and test evidence (e.g. type-tested inverters, protection relay compliance, commissioning forms) to confirm suitability for connection at LV. Checking application submissions for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, ensuring all mandatory G99 declarations, calculations, and attachments are provided. Identifying non-compliances, omissions, or design risks and raising technical queries with applicants or installers for clarification and resolution. Confirming whether applications meet Fast Track / simplified assessment criteria or whether they require escalation for further engineering assessment. Documenting technical assessment outcomes clearly, maintaining audit-ready records and providing structured recommendations to support connection approval decisions.
What are we looking for? • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering • Experience in power distribution, substations, or renewable energy projects. • Electrical design knowledge for medium voltage and low voltage systems • Protection and relay coordination knowledge • Understanding of distributed generation technologies. • Analysis and Reporting • Experience with technical documentation systems or project tracking tools.
Roles and Responsibilities: Technical Design Review • Review Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) for generators such as solar PV, wind, CHP, and battery storage. • Assess electrical equipment ratings (transformers, switchgear, breakers, cables). • Verify compliance with G99 interface protection requirements. Protection & Control • Review generator protection schemes, including: o Over/under voltage protection o Over/under frequency protection o Loss of mains protection o ROCOF and vector shift settings. • Validate protection relay configuration and coordination. Documentation & Compliance • Review submitted documents: o Generator datasheets o Protection settings o Earthing design o Equipment specifications. • Ensure compliance with DNO technical standards and Energy Networks Association guidelines. Commissioning Support • Review G99 commissioning test reports. • Participate in witness testing where required.
