Finding your true calling is like finding your favorite cupcake flavor—you have to try a lot of options first before you decide. Just ask avid video gamer and Field HR Lead Steph! From graduating as a licensed nurse, then exploring the world of culinary arts as a pastry chef to joining Accenture as an operations associate, it took a while for Steph to find a role that was truly rewarding.

Starting her career journey in Accenture back in 2012, Steph spent two and a half years in operations before spending four more years as a trainer for the same project. It was then that she realized that she really wanted to try her hand in human resources. And it was there that Steph found her fulfillment.

“I got to talk with top leaders when I was still just starting out in HR—I never imagined I would have an opportunity to connect and learn from them, as well as present my ideas and inputs to them. It was really fulfilling and it helped me become more confident.”

Even without any background in HR, Steph found support and encouragement from Accenture and her colleagues. She was able to get the training she needed for her new career path. While Steph felt like she had to start all over again after already spending seven years in the company, her colleagues inspired her to continue her pursuit of purposeful work.

Pretty soon, Steph was flourishing in her new role, showing her stakeholders what she could do in her new role. “I was able to ramp up our stakeholder’s trust in our team—which they validated through feedback—and I’m really proud of that.”

As Steph looks back on the opportunity she was given, she proudly advocates Accenture as a truly great place to work. Accenture did not just empower her to grow the career she wanted. It also validated her skills and talent by allowing her to contribute to the business’ goals. It’s an experience that Steph eagerly shares with new hires, telling them that they don’t have to stay in their initial role forever. Through continuous learning, the willingness to grow and the drive to find purpose in their role, they, too, can be empowered to find the opportunity that’s right for them without having to change companies.

Steph and her team lead recently came up with a checklist for her continued growth and development—proving that even after 10 years in the company, the sky is still the limit for possibilities in her exciting career journey.
