Job Description

Control Systems Engineer:

A control systems engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining control systems that help automate and optimize industrial processes. These systems can range from simple machinery to complex automation systems that control entire production lines.

The key responsibilities of a control systems engineer may include:

Designing and developing control systems for various industrial applications Creating software and hardware solutions to control and automate processes Testing, troubleshooting, and modifying control systems to ensure they are operating correctly Conducting research and analyzing data to improve control system performance Collaborating with other engineers and stakeholders to identify and implement improvements to processes and systems Developing and implementing safety measures to ensure that control systems are operating safely Maintaining and updating control systems to ensure they continue to operate effectively and efficiently Documenting and communicating technical specifications and instructions to other engineers and stakeholders.

Control systems engineers may work in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, aerospace, and energy. They may work in teams with other engineers or work independently to complete projects. Control systems engineers must have strong technical skills in areas such as computer programming, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. They must also have excellent problem-solving skills and be able to communicate technical information clearly to others.

Functional Safety Engineer

A functional safety engineer is responsible for ensuring that systems and equipment meet safety standards and regulations. Their job is to identify potential hazards and risks in complex systems and equipment and develop safety solutions to mitigate these risks.

The key responsibilities of a functional safety engineer may include:

Analyzing complex systems and identifying potential hazards and risks Developing safety solutions to mitigate identified risks Creating safety requirements and ensuring that they are met during the development process Designing and developing safety systems and equipment that meet regulatory requirements Testing and validating safety systems and equipment to ensure that they are functioning correctly Conducting risk assessments and recommending mitigation measures Collaborating with other engineers and stakeholders to identify and implement improvements to safety systems and equipment Providing technical support and guidance to other engineers and stakeholders on safety-related matters Ensuring that safety documentation is accurate, complete, and up-to-date Keeping up-to-date with relevant safety standards and regulations.

Functional safety engineers typically work in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and industrial automation. They must have a strong technical background in engineering, particularly in areas such as electronics, software, and systems engineering. They must also have excellent problem-solving skills, be able to work independently or in a team, and have a keen attention to detail. Additionally, they must be knowledgeable about relevant safety standards and regulations and be able to communicate complex technical information to a range of stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified engineer with at least 3 years’ experience, or equivalent
  • Experience with a range of PLC/SCADA/RTU types and applications - (Allen Bradley / Schneider PLCs favourable)
  • Ability to work as an integral team member
  • Strong written communications skill
  • Well developed interpersonal skills
