Business & Data Lead
The Senior Data Lead is accountable for end‑to‑end data migration delivery across an SAP implementation program. This role leads and orchestrates both functional and technical data teams to define, govern, and execute the data migration strategy, ensuring data readiness is fully aligned with the overall project plan and cutover timeline.
The Data Lead acts as the single point of accountability for all data‑related deliverables—spanning strategy, governance, execution, validation, and sign‑off—while partnering closely with Business, Functional Leads, Technical Leads, and the Program Management Office.
This role requires strong business acumen, deep SAP data migration experience, and proven leadership in delivering complex conversions within large, multi‑stream SAP programs.
Key Responsibilities
Data Migration Strategy & Governance
- Define and own the Data Migration Strategy covering scope, principles, tooling, sequencing, rehearsal cycles, and cutover approach
- Establish data governance, roles, and RACI across business, functional, and technical teams
- Define data quality, validation, reconciliation, and sign‑off criteria with business stakeholders
End‑to‑End Data Migration Delivery
- Lead the planning and execution of all data migration activities across project phases (Explore, Realize, Deploy)
- Own the Data Conversion Plan, including mock loads, dress rehearsals, pre‑load and post‑load activities
- Coordinate data extraction, transformation, validation, and loading across legacy and SAP target systems
- Oversee manual data collection templates and processes, ensuring completeness, ownership, and quality
- Manage data cutover activities in close coordination with technical cutover and business readiness teams
Team Leadership & Cross‑Stream Integration
- Lead and mentor a cross‑functional data team comprising functional consultants, data analysts, and technical developers
- Act as the bridge between Business, Functional, and Technical teams, resolving data‑related dependencies and conflicts
- Drive clear accountability across data objects, owners, and execution teams
- Provide clear status reporting, risk management, and escalation to Program Leadership
Business & Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage business stakeholders to validate data scope, readiness, and acceptance criteria
- Translate business requirements into executable data migration solutions
- Facilitate data sign‑off workshops, reconciliation reviews, and go‑live readiness assessments
- Challenge assumptions and proactively identify data risks impacting business operation
Required Experience & Qualifications
Core Experience
- 10+ years of experience in SAP implementations, with significant leadership experience in data migration
- Proven track record leading data migration for large‑scale SAP programs (S/4HANA preferred)
- Experience managing both functional and technical data teams
- Strong understanding of SAP data objects across core domains
