Principal Duties and Responsibilities
As a Consultant in Data Governance Support, you will play a key role in designing and implementing data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance across transformation programmes. You will work closely with business and technology teams to enable effective data management, analysis, and migration.
- Data Governance Framework Design:
- Conduct structured discovery interviews and workshops with a broad stakeholder group to baseline the current state of data governance, data quality, stewardship, and data management processes.
- Support the design and implementation of data governance frameworks, including policies, standards, roles, and processes.
- Develop and validate RACI matrices to individual job title level across multiple master data domains, facilitating workshops with data owners and stewards to confirm and refine accountability.
- Support the translation of the client's data strategy into an actionable implementation roadmap, sequenced against programme milestones and organisational dependencies.
- Contribute to benefits identification and success metric definition for the data governance and management programme.
- Data Migration Planning: Provide advisory support on the data migration approach, including review of data readiness, migration sequencing, parallel running governance, and pre-migration quality gates.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with business, IT, and data owners to define data requirements, governance structures, and ownership models.
- Compliance & Controls: Ensure adherence to data governance standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
- Documentation & Reporting: Develop and maintain governance documentation, data dictionaries, and reporting artifacts to support transparency and control.
Industry/ Functional Skills (Preferred)
- Understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, and data lifecycle processes.
- Understanding of master data management concepts — data lifecycle, system of record, duplicate management, and reference data governance.
- CDMP Associate certification or active pursuit of CDMP is advantageous but not required.
- Knowledge of data migration concepts including mapping, cleansing, validation, and reconciliation.
- Ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders to define and enforce data standards.
- Strong documentation, problem-solving, and communication skills.
What this role is not
This is a governance consulting role, not a data engineering or technical data management role. The following skills are explicitly not required and should not be considered selection criteria:
- SQL query writing or database administration
- ETL tool development or data pipeline engineering
- Data science, machine learning, or statistical modelling
- Hands-on configuration of Oracle ERP, Salesforce, or other enterprise platforms
- Data architecture design or enterprise solution architecture
Candidates with a pure technology background and no consulting or governance framework experience are unlikely to be a strong fit. Candidates with a consulting background who have supported data governance or data management engagements — even without deep technical data skills — are the primary target profile for this role.
