Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Overview
Own and lead large-scale Azure cloud architecture advisory programs for enterprise clients — setting the overall architecture vision, governance approach, and delivery strategy. Serve as the executive trusted advisor to CTO, CIO, and senior technology leaders, translating complex Azure architecture decisions into clear business outcomes. Define the target-state Azure architecture including Landing Zone (ALZ) designs, Management Group hierarchies, and Azure Policy frameworks that set the standards teams work within.
Shape the cloud security architecture stance for client engagements — setting Zero Trust principles, Entra ID governance models, network segmentation strategy using Azure Firewall and Virtual WAN, and policy-as-code frameworks that downstream teams implement. Define the Microsoft Defender for Cloud posture and Sentinel integration approach.
Define the FinOps strategy and financial governance model for client Azure estates — setting Reservation and Azure Hybrid Benefit strategies, chargeback and showback models, and multi-year cost optimisation roadmaps using Azure Cost Management. Own the quantification of cost savings and present these to CFO and CIO-level stakeholders.
Set the IaC and platform engineering standards for client engagements — defining governance, tooling choices (Bicep, ARM, Terraform), and architectural patterns that ensure consistency and scalability. Own the observability architecture strategy, defining monitoring frameworks across Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, and third-party platforms such as Datadog and Dynatrace.
Beyond core Azure architecture, shape how the practice engages across adjacent areas — defining the AI-ready cloud foundation for AI and agentic workloads using Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, and Azure Machine Learning; setting the cloud architecture standards that Tech Modernization and Technology Resiliency colleagues build upon; and leading ecosystem advisory covering Microsoft partner network strategy, ISV/MSP rationalisation, and MACC commercial model evaluation.
Lead business development activities including RFP and RFI responses, solutioning for large cloud architecture and transformation programs, client presentations at CTO/CIO level. Shape and evolve cloud architecture advisory offerings, reference architectures, and methodologies that strengthen the practice.
Build practice capability through asset development, methodologies, and points of view.
Qualifications & Certifications
Educational Background
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline. A Master's degree (MBA, MSc in Cloud Computing, or equivalent) is preferred, particularly when paired with deep experience in cloud architecture advisory and enterprise technology strategy.

14+ years of relevant experience in consulting, cloud infrastructure, or enterprise technology organisations. At least 6 years leading cloud architecture strategy and advisory engagements for enterprise clients, with a demonstrated track record of executive-level advisory, program leadership, and practice development.
Proven experience owning the end-to-end Azure architecture vision for large transformation programs — setting target-state designs, defining Azure Landing Zone (ALZ) and Management Group standards, and governing architecture quality across delivery teams.
Deep experience shaping cloud security posture for enterprise clients — defining Zero Trust frameworks, Entra ID governance models, Microsoft Defender for Cloud strategy, Sentinel integration, and policy-as-code approaches at program level.
Experience defining and owning FinOps strategy for large Azure estates — building multi-year cost models, setting Reservation and Azure Hybrid Benefit frameworks, quantifying savings, and presenting financial outcomes to CFO and CIO-level stakeholders.
Experience leading cross-capability cloud architecture programs spanning AI infrastructure, application modernisation, and technology resiliency — positioning the Azure platform as the foundational layer across adjacent workstreams.
