Custom Software Engineer
Project Role Description : Develop custom software solutions to design, code, and enhance components across systems or applications. Use modern frameworks and agile practices to deliver scalable, high-performing solutions tailored to specific business needs.
Must have skills : SAP Product Lifecycle Management
Good to have skills : NA
Minimum 7.5 year(s) of experience is required
Educational Qualification : 15 years full time education
Summary:
As an SAP PLM Consultant, you will execute configuration, build and test work to an approved design, accountable for the quality of your own deliverables for D2C (interpretation to be confirmed) within the Supply chain & logistics tower of the DRS SAP programme. The role exists to own product lifecycle data and its readiness for direct-to-consumer channels, where product information must be complete and governed before a product becomes sellable.
Delivery quality is personal at this level. Performance is assessed on configuration that holds under integration test, on defect recurrence, and on documentation complete enough for another engineer to assume ownership. AI-assisted engineering is expected as standard practice, with every generated output validated before transport.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Scope & Decision Rights: Execute within an approved design. You determine how a configuration item is built, tested and documented design changes, scope calls and estimates are escalated to the workstream lead.
Product Structure & BOM Management: Configure and support product master, bill of material structures, document management and classification across the product lifecycle.
Engineering Change Management: Configure engineering change management, including change requests and change orders, effectivity and the controlled release of product changes into manufacturing and sales.
Channel Data Readiness: Apply and govern the product attributes, media references and channel-specific data required for direct-to-consumer selling, and the gate that stops incomplete products reaching the channel.
Lifecycle Status Governance: Execute and maintain product status and lifecycle governance so that introduction, change and discontinuation are controlled events rather than data edits.
Integration & Dependencies: Work with Material Master in the Procurement tower, with Production Planning for manufacturing handover and with Order Management for sellable product data. The D2C scope definition is to be confirmed with the programme.
Delivery Execution & Quality: Deliver assigned configuration, build and test items against sprint commitments, with configuration rationale, unit test evidence and cutover steps documented to handover standard.
Defect Diagnosis & Resolution: Investigate defects and incidents affecting product data gaps blocking channel launch or uncontrolled engineering changes reaching production, isolating root cause across configuration, master data and interface layers and confirming resolution through regression.
AI-Assisted Engineering & Joule: Apply AI assistants to profile product data completeness, generate validation rules and summarise change impact across structures, validating every generated output against system behaviour before transport. Use SAP Joule for Consultants for configuration guidance and troubleshooting, and flag manual steps in the module that are candidates for a Joule agent.
Knowledge Transfer: Document reusable configuration patterns, support analysts joining the workstream, and escalate blockers promptly.
Collaboration: Work with functional leads, test teams and downstream modules, reporting item status in terms of delivery impact.
Professional & Technical Skills:
Must-Have Skills
SAP PLM Core: Hands-on configuration of product master, BOM management, document management system and classification in SAP PLM.
Engineering Change Management: Working expertise in ECM including change requests, change orders, effectivity and release control.
Product Data Governance: Practical experience defining product data completeness rules and enforcing them before downstream release.
Cross-Module Product Flow: Working knowledge of how product data flows into MM, PP and SD and what breaks downstream when it is incomplete.
Scope Clarification: Readiness to confirm the D2C scope definition on appointment and re-baseline responsibilities accordingly.
AI-Assisted Delivery: Evidenced use of AI coding and analysis assistants in live SAP delivery, demonstrable through the specific outputs produced and the validation applied.
SAP Joule for Consultants: Working use of SAP Joule for Consultants in configuration and troubleshooting, including verification of the guidance returned against actual system behaviour. Where prior Joule exposure is absent, working proficiency is expected within 90 days of joining.
Evidence of AI Adoption: Demonstrable adoption of AI in delivery work. This may be evidenced through use of AI coding or analysis assistants, or through equivalent contribution such as reusable accelerators, scripted automation of recurring delivery tasks, or codified patterns adopted by others.
Delivery Discipline: Record of meeting sprint commitments on an enterprise SAP programme, with defect and rework rates that withstood review.
Ownership & Communication: Capable of working an ambiguous defect to root cause independently and of stating clearly when a committed date is at risk.
