Data Architect
Project Role Description : Define the data requirements and structure for the application. Model and design the application data structure, storage and integration.
Must have skills : PostgreSQL
Good to have skills : NA
Minimum 7.5 year(s) of experience is required
Educational Qualification : 15 years full time education
Role Summary We re seeking a seasoned Data Architect to lead the end-to-end design and implementation of a secure, scalable, and highly available data architecture to migrate enterprise data from on prem IBM DB2 to a managed PostgreSQL service in the cloud. You will define migration patterns, data modeling standards, and governance while partnering with engineering, security, and business stakeholders to deliver a reliable and cost optimized platform. Key Responsibilities 1 Own the target-state data architecture for moving on prem IBM DB2 workloads to cloud PostgreSQL (e.g., AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or Google Cloud SQL). 2 Assess current state: DB2 schemas, data volumes, dependencies, and performance design detailed migration blueprints and cutover strategies. 3 Define canonical data models, normalization/denormalization strategies, partitioning, indexing, and PostgreSQL performance optimization. 4 Establish data migration patterns, reconciliation checks, and rollback plans lead POCs and pilots. 5 Select and guide tooling for schema conversion and data movement (IBM-native tools, cloud migration services, DMS, pg dump/pg restore, Ora2Pg like converters) automate repeatable pipelines. 6 Design for security and compliance: encryption at rest/in transit, key management, secrets handling, data masking, and RBAC aligned with infosec policies. 7 Define observability and reliability standards: monitoring, alerting, backup/restore, DR (RPO/RTO), and capacity planning. 8 Establish data quality controls, metadata management, lineage, and governance partner with Data Stewards. 9 Create performance benchmarks and tuning playbooks (query plans, indexes, VACUUM/ANALYZE, autovacuum settings, connection pooling, caching). 10 Collaborate with application teams to remediate SQL differences, stored procedures, and driver/ORM changes advise on compatibility and refactoring. 11 Produce architecture artifacts, target reference architecture, interface contracts, migration runbooks, and operational SOPs. 12 Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers drive architectural reviews and ensure best practice adherence. Required Qualifications 1 8–10 years of experience in Data Architecture with hands on delivery of large scale data platforms. 2 Strong expertise with IBM DB2 (LUW or z/OS): schema design, SQL/stored procedures, and performance tuning. 3 Deep working knowledge of PostgreSQL internals: SQL, indexing, partitioning, VACUUM/ANALYZE, query planning, and optimization. 4 Practical experience migrating from DB2 (or other RDBMS) to PostgreSQL, including schema conversion and SQL compatibility remediation. 5 Experience designing for cloud-managed PostgreSQL (AWS/Azure/GCP), including high availability, backups, replication, and DR. 6 Proficiency with data migration tooling and ETL/ELT patterns and familiarity with CDC (ex. IBM InfoSphere, Debezium, or cloud-native DMS). 7 Solid grasp of data security, governance, compliance frameworks, and enterprise integration patterns. 8 Strong documentation and stakeholder communication and ability to lead cross-functional initiatives. Preferred / Nice to Have 1 Experience with microservices/data services integration, API contracts, and event streaming (Kafka). 2 Hands-on with IaC(Terraform/CloudFormation/Bicep) for database provisioning/configuration. 3 Experience with data quality tools, catalog/lineage (ex. Collibra, DataHub) and observability (Prometheus/Grafana/cloud-native).
