JOB SUMMARY The Manager, Data Governance and Quality plays a critical role in advancing Vertex’s enterprise data governance strategy. This role is responsible for leading domain-specific data governance councils, managing data analysts and/or stewards, and driving the implementation of data quality standards and governance practices across the data lifecycle. The manager will collaborate cross-functionally to ensure consistent application of governance policies, including access control, data cataloging, and lineage tracking. This position requires strong analytical expertise, leadership capabilities, and experience in data lifecycle management, data labeling, and metadata governance. Familiarity with tools such as Atlan and experience building and maintaining data dictionaries, catalogs, and lineage frameworks is highly desirable. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES ? Governance Leadership: Lead domain-specific data governance councils to ensure alignment with enterprise strategy. Oversee the implementation and enforcement of data governance policies, including access control and stewardship protocols. Collaborate with other managers and governance leaders to drive consistency and maturity across domains. ? Team Management: Manage a team of data analysts and/or stewards responsible for data quality rule creation, maintenance, and remediation. Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management aligned with governance goals. ? Data Quality & Lifecycle Oversight: Define and implement data quality standards, rules, thresholds, and metrics. Monitor data quality across upstream and downstream systems and drive root cause analysis and remediation. Support the development of systematic and procedural controls to ensure data integrity. ? Metadata & Cataloging: Lead efforts to build and maintain data dictionaries, catalogs, and lineage documentation. Partner with technology teams to integrate metadata management tools and ensure discoverability and traceability of data assets. Promote adoption of cataloging tools such as Atlan and ensure metadata is consistently applied across domains. ? Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with business stakeholders, data owners, and enterprise architecture teams to translate business rules into executable data quality checks. Participate in cross-domain projects and initiatives, contributing governance expertise and taking on additional responsibilities as needed. ? Change Management & Communication: Drive change management, training, and education initiatives to promote data governance awareness and adoption. Communicate governance priorities and progress to senior leadership and stakeholders. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Manage a team of data analysts and/or stewards across multiple data domains, ensuring coverage and accountability for data governance activities. Define team goals, development plans, and succession strategies that align with the organization's governance maturity objectives. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Proven experience in data governance, data quality, and metadata management. Strong analytical background with ability to identify trends and anomalies. Experience with data lifecycle management and data labeling. Familiarity with data governance tools such as Atlan, Collibra, or Informatica. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to work through ambiguity and drive clarity in complex environments. Strong organizational and strategic thinking skills. EDUCATION AND TRAINING Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field required. 8–10 years of experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles. Experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce and Workday is a plus. Certifications in data governance, metadata management, or related disciplines preferred. Other Qualifications Ability to translate complex data issues into clear recommendations and partner effectively across business and technical teams. Ability to conduct independent analysis on large datasets. Familiarity with global data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA). Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
