Infrastructure & Capital Projects – Transit Safety Director, ANS
THE WORK:
- Strategic Leadership & Practice Development
• You’ll build, implement, and continuously improve a world‑class Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) management system aligned with client, corporate, and state agency objectives.
• You’ll establish and grow a regional safety consulting team through recruitment, mentoring, performance management, and professional development.
• You’ll define service offerings, standards, tools, and delivery models for construction safety services within the Transit Group.Project & Operational Excellence
• You’ll provide executive‑level safety oversight for complex transit and infrastructure construction projects.
• You’ll oversee the full safety lifecycle of projects, including safety planning, program development, field inspections, compliance verification, and monthly or program‑level audits conducted on behalf of clients.
• You’ll lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for serious incidents and near misses, collaborating with project teams and clients to implement sustainable corrective actions.
• You’ll partner with Finance and project leadership on risk, insurance, and claims management, including OCIP/CCIP programs and workers’ compensation considerations.Client Advisory & Agency Engagement
• You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to public agencies, contractors, and internal leadership on construction safety and regulatory compliance.
• You’ll represent the firm in high‑level meetings with transit agencies, Cal/OSHA, and other regulatory bodies.
• You’ll support clients during audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions.Business Development & Market Growth
• You’ll act as a key technical contributor during pursuits, proposals, and interviews.
• You’ll leverage safety performance, sustainability, and risk‑management strategies as competitive differentiators.
• You’ll support long‑term growth of the safety consulting practice through strong client relationships and market insight. - Onsite at client site: The work location for this role is onsite with our clients and partners to enable delivery and cultivate our client relationships.
- With all our roles, there is some in-person time for collaboration, learning and building relationships with clients, peers, leaders and communities. As an employer, we will be as flexible as possible to support your specific work/life needs.
- Hybrid work model combining remote work, onsite client engagements, and collaboration at regional delivery centers.
- Statewide travel required for project support, client meetings, and field verifications.
$180,000 - $230,000 a year
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
• Minimum 18 years of progressive construction safety management experience
• At least 5 years in a senior leadership role with responsibility for multiple projects, programs, or regions
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field
• Equivalent combination of education and professional experience may be considered
• Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) – Acceptable for construction-focused roles
• Other nationally recognized safety credentials (e.g., ASP, CSHO, or equivalent) may be considered based on experience and role alignment
• State of California QSP (Qualified SWPPP Practitioner) or QSD certification
• OSHA 30‑Hour Construction Safety & Health
• Valid California Class C driver’s license
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) – Preferred
- Experience supporting large, complex infrastructure or transit construction programs
- Deep expertise in Cal/OSHA Title 8 and California construction safety regulations
- Working knowledge of Caltrans and transit agency safety and environmental requirements
- Demonstrated experience operating in public‑sector and regulated project environments
- Sustainability: ENV SP (Envision Sustainability Professional) or LEED AP
- Advanced Safety: CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) or CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional)
- Environmental: EP (Environmental Professional) or CPESC
- Auditing: Demonstrated experience performing ISO-level internal EHS audits
