Summary:
We are seeking an experienced MS SQL Database Lead to manage, optimize, and support enterprise SQL Server environments. The candidate will lead database administration activities, ensure high availability and performance of databases, drive database architecture improvements, and mentor a team of DBAs. The role requires strong expertise in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, security, and database automation.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Database Administration:
- Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, testing, and production environments.
- Monitor database health, performance, and availability.
- Perform database installations, upgrades, migrations, and patch management.
- Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
- Performance Optimization:
- Analyze and optimize database performance.
- Troubleshoot slow-running queries, blocking, deadlocks, and resource bottlenecks.
- Develop indexing strategies and database maintenance plans.
- Conduct capacity planning and performance forecasting.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery:
- Implement and support SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, and Replication.
- Ensure business continuity through disaster recovery planning and testing.
- Define and maintain RPO/RTO objectives.
- Security & Compliance:
- Manage database security, user access, roles, and permissions.
- Implement encryption, auditing, and compliance controls.
- Ensure adherence to organizational security standards and regulatory requirements.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of DBAs.
- Assign and review work, establish best practices, and drive operational excellence.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams.
- Automation & Process Improvement:
- Improve monitoring, alerting, and maintenance processes.
Professional & Technical Skills:
- Technical Skills -
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 administration.
- Expertise in T-SQL programming and query optimization.
- Experience with: SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Replication, Log Shipping, Failover Clustering, SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS (preferred).
- Database monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Backup and recovery strategies.
- Develop automation scripts using T-SQL and PowerShell.
- Cloud Skills (Preferred)
- Experience with SQL Server on: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services.
- Experience managing large-scale enterprise databases (TB-sized environments).
- Exposure to ITIL processes and change management.
- Experience supporting 24x7 production environments.
- Knowledge of managed database services and cloud migration.
- Leadership Skills: Team management and stakeholder communication.
- Incident management and root cause analysis.
- Project planning and execution.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Database uptime and availability.
- Query performance improvements.
- Successful backup and recovery compliance.
- Incident resolution and SLA adherence.
- Team productivity and process automation metrics.
Certifications Preferred:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
- SQL Server certifications or equivalent.
Additional Information:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
- The candidate should have minimum 7-12 years of experience in Microsoft SQL server Administration.
- This position is based at our Bengaluru office.
- A 15 years full time education is required.
