Highlights from the Accenture Innovation Conference 2015
At the inaugural Accenture Innovation Conference and awards on 26 February 2015, we were fortunate enough to host nearly 1,500 C-suite executives, small business owners, government policy makers, institutional decision-makers, heads of academia and opinion shapers, who came to hear an outstanding line-up of speakers talk about how innovation can disrupt, change and drive organisations and countries.
Meet Our 2015 Speakers
We have collated the top takeaways from all our key conference contributors in a set of speaker notes for you. Download the speaker notes here.
Clayton Christensen

Clayton Christensen
Clayton delivered an analysis of the reasons behind the increasingly long tails of the nine US recessions since World War II—from six months for the first one to 70 for the last one in 2008—and in doing so imparted illuminating lessons for innovation, growth and job creation.

Greg Brandeau

Greg Brandeau
"You have to maintain a difficult paradox of unleashing individual talent while preserving a collective identity; supporting creativity while encouraging confrontation; and brushing up on what skills will be required in three years' time while delivering results today."

Sebastian Thrun

Sebastian Thrun
"I think of innovation as a mountain. You can only climb by having a clear, shared, unwavering objective. You have to build a small and preferably insulated team of people, with total autonomy. You will make the most progress by implementing a rapid build-test-fail cycle. If you fail, pivot to find a new route if you must, just not a different mountain."

Lisa Bodell

Lisa Bodell
"We must develop an eye for inventions that are not only possible but probable, and moreover desirable."

Ludwick Marishane

Ludwick Marishane
"True waste is where the products of entrepreneurial effort never see the light of day, because someone dropped the ball."

William Mzimba

William Mzimba
"We must leverage the new borderless platforms to harness the collective inputs of stakeholder communities beyond our corporate siloes and borders, and so step up innovation."

Mayor Parks Tau

Mayor Parks Tau
"With a triad of resources feeding into progress - capital (business), institutions (education and R&D) and infrastructure (ICT, transport, electricity and water)—the implication is that the design of cities is of paramount importance to the efficiency of a nation's innovation engines."

Ambassador Gaspard

Ambassador Gaspard
"Opportunities exist for initiatives around creating more bandwidth, providing better intellectual property protection, establishing training centres around innovation hubs, optimising trade efficiencies, lowering trade barriers and investing in infrastructure improvement."

Index Award Winners

We identified and measured innovation in two categories: Top Innovative Concepts and Overall Innovation Masters (Zenith Award and Apex Award).

The Top Innovative Concept category sought out a great South African product, system or service innovation that had been commercialised.

The Overall Innovation Masters Awards included listed or unlisted companies, non-governmental or public organisations, from any industry and of any size in terms of turnover.
